Q: HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

Dear all,

I used the old ATV for a long time and never had problems with it. Yesterday my new ATV 2 arrived. The setup was very easy but after a few minutes a problem with HDMI Handshake occurred and repeats at least every 20-30 minutes:

I get a green screen for one or two seconds and then the picture appears again with some kind of inverted colors.

I use a Philips 40 inch 7664 LED LCD with the newest firmware installed.

Any idea what I could to to fix this issue?

Thanks

Regarding using the hdmi splitter, strange thing!

The colour problem does NOT happen while watching a movie, but does when the photo screen-saver is on

    Apple Tv 2 + Sony Bravia KDL-40S550

Tried different length hdmi cables, all devices are up to date, tried connecting to different channels.
Every ∼10 minutes I get a blink (screen goes to black and back in 1 sec) and then I get a duotone (blacks are cyan-green and highlights are magenta) screen. If you wait around 10 minutes it goes back to normal or change hdmi channels from the lcd.

This problem occurs while watching a movie or screen saver is on. Did not suspect it while the menus are on.

Generation 1 Apple Tv nor my Satellite Tv do not cause this problem.

    FYI

I purchased the Apple TV2 a couple weeks ago. When I tried it with my Phillips TV it had a pink instead of black background. I called Apple support and they instructed me to take it into an Apple Store to test the ATV and my HDMI cable - they both worked fine in the store. So I returned the ATV. I really like the ATV concept even over the new Google TV but if it doesn't work I don't really have a choice. What really bothers me is that it doesn't seem like Apple is tracking what TVs the ATV2 is not working with so they can resolve these issues.

adding one of the HDMI splitters mentioned in a previous post does NOT help matters. Save your money.

Now that is very odd, as that is the exact same TV as I am using with my ATV2 (KLD40W2000), and I haven't had any handshake picture issues in 3 weeks of use (Library/Homeshare issues, yes....but no ATV2/TV HDMI incompatibility).

Tried the mentioned splitter, seemed like it worked for an hour then got back all the problems I used to face ... So does not work... I have talked with apple support they mentioned that they are aware of the situation and the engineers are collecting data to release a firmware update but they did not guarantee that the firmware update may solve the problem.

Re the splitter, the first time I used it, I watched a movie for over 2 hours without a problem. I then noticed the problem came back on the screen saver. Since then, it is clear that the problem, although much less frequent, still occurs.

Looks like a wait for the firmware is the only answer.

We have this HDMI-problem on 3 different apple-tv's. It is totally unacceptable.

*Apple - please fix this problem now!*

Just to say I'm having the same problem with my new Apple TV (bought last week) and Sony Bravia 26EX3 (purchased today).

Purple/Pink screen after 30 minutes of setting up the new TV and plugging in the Apple TV.

    ;-(

    Hi,
I have a Sony 40BX - ... TV and the same problem. I uploaded a video of it if you care to look at it.
Interestingly however, the problem persists after changing the input to something else. It is only after the second try that it looks normal again!

Can this be fixed via software?

    Same issue here, sadly...

    Apple TV 2 / Philips 32PFL9604

I've bought the Apple TV in an apple restore (germany).

A quick fix would be very nice.

I've got the same problem. Pink/purple screen appears after a momentary black screen. I'm using a Sony Bravia KDL-40S5500. Went through all the different HDMI inputs, tried different cables, used ethernet instead of WiFi and adjusted every setting I can find on both the TV and AppleTV. I took the AppleTV back to the store and the person behind the Genius Bar looked very surprised and said it was the first he'd heard of it. I got the unit replaced but the problem is still exactly the same. Incompatibility between AppleTV and certain HDMI TVs. Oh, and I'm not in Germany!
