Oct 28, 2010 10:31 AM in response to Louiecypherby Kwintin,This whole thing is starting to get on my nerves.
Come on Apple, this is ridiculous! Every other company is able to make HDMI compliant devices that work with every TV and you actually can't ? We're talking about Sony and Philips TV here, rings a bell? -

Oct 28, 2010 3:29 PM in response to steve_acpby dpicciotto,Sony KDL-32EX402 bought in Italy

AppleTV 2G bought in US
Occurs every 20' MAX....
It's really a pain in the ***.... -
Oct 28, 2010 3:29 PM in response to Kwintinby lineout,Apple puts on a front of being a caring company but when it comes down to it they are just like every other large organisation. Deny there is a prblem until it goes away. If it doesn't go away hold a ridicous press conference and say everyone else has the same problem so why pick on us.
Basically I wouldn't hold my breadth waiting for a fix. Seems like we all spent money on a very expensive paper weight. -
Oct 29, 2010 12:53 AM in response to Arcade99by morechicken,Same problem here with ATV2 and Philips 42 PFL7404H. The issues happen every 30 min for 5 min. -

Oct 30, 2010 2:45 AM in response to Arcade99by proximity,I did a video with my iPhone to document the issue to make it easier for others to identify the issue.
This is what the Apple TV looks like at home:
*Glimts of Purple / green, noise, stuttering sound. The TV is a Samsung UE55C6005 with firmware 2010/06/23-001009. The HDMI Cable is 1.3*
If I disconnect the power cable, the issue goes away for a while but is sure to come back randomly later. Feel free to pull down the video as I can't host it in my DropBox forever. -
Dec 20, 2010 10:30 AM in response to proximityby iLove-Apple,I posted a video as well. However, sound still works and the screen is bluish, not green. It goes away most of the time after switching inputs and switching back to the aTV. These issues might not even be connected, but they could.
I hope they fix it soon or else I am going for a refund.

Oct 30, 2010 8:01 AM in response to Arcade99by eStreetTOF,I've got the same problem.
I bought the ATV2 and I got the blue screen just on one TV.
On my Phillips 1080p 100hz : blue screen
But I tried this affertoon on a second TV : a Samsung 720p 50 hz and it is OK. No problem, No blue Screen. -
Oct 30, 2010 8:07 AM in response to Arcade99by decsramble,I have the same problem with a Philips 42" LCD TV. I'm doing a complete restore in the hope that a fresh install from Apple might solve something. Seems like Apple messed up badly with the HDMI handshaking. -
Oct 30, 2010 8:14 AM in response to decsrambleby iLove-Apple,I already tried that because the Apple rep. told me to, didn't help at all!
I think it's time for Apple to acknowledge the problem and do something about it!
This appears to be a larger problem!
P.S.: Maybe it's the new HDMI-gate -
Oct 30, 2010 12:54 PM in response to nomawie23by rsraby,This is certainly not a problem unique to Germany: my UK Phillips 32PFL model exhibits the same behaviour... ATV2 going back tomorrow morning... -
Oct 30, 2010 10:17 PM in response to Arcade99by vassilis vassiliou,Green/magenta screen with two apple tv 2nd gen units. No problem with apple tv 1st gen on my phillips.
It looks like we have to wait for a new software version. I found this link helpful in understanding HDMI handshake. Also contains general troubleshooting instructions.

Hope it helps. -
Oct 31, 2010 7:00 AM in response to rainy82by schnabel,Now I knew, I am not allone with the problem of false colors on my ATV (2. Generation and very new). My Sony TV (Bravia 40 NX 500) is connect with the HDMI-Cable from Balkin. The false colors were show temporately every 30 minutes. What's wrong with ATV? Do you change the hardware at the online store? -
Oct 31, 2010 8:00 AM in response to schnabelby rsraby,AppleCare UK seemed blissfully unaware of any problems with the recently released AT2 when I called them on Saturday. Moreover, the shop from where I purchased the product has not been too helpful either: they regard the product as software rather than hardware and are unlikely to refund even though it simply refuses to work reliably with my recently purchased Philips television owing to the HDMI handshake issue detailed in this thread.
So, buyer beware, in the UK at least: potential purchasers of this less than stellar product may wish to reconsider if they believe that it will be a simple matter of returning it for a refund should there be any problems down the line.
I tend to agree with the proposition put forward by others that Apple has lost sight of the "it just works philosophy", noting that even professional applications such as Aperture receive such scant attention these days that essential bug fixes take an age to appear. As for the Apple TV, a hardware fix may well appear, but such problems are never acknowledged publicly which merely fuels increasing frustration amongst its user base.
