Oct 31, 2010 8:04 AM in response to rsrabyby iLove-Apple,Hi, I just talked to Apple Support in the US and since I tried every other step (different TV, different cable) the guy suggested that I get my unit swapped.
IN THE MEANTIME, however, he also told me that since so many people are reporting this issue, he was going to talk to the engineers and bump this up to a higher level. He promised to send me an update if he heard anything new and I sure hope that the engineers will find out what's causing it and will be able to fix it. If I find out something, I'll post it here as well, so stay tuned! Apple is aware of this! -
Oct 31, 2010 2:37 PM in response to iLove-Appleby steve_acp,I spoke to AppleCare UK over 2weeks ago to an apple tv specialist, they are well aware of the issue, and it is being worked on. They guy even gave me his email address and direct phone number.
There is no point returning it if you want to continue with it, just wait for the firmware update. It's frustrating, but it is what it is.
I have never had any bother returning products to an apple store, even if bought online, or from a phone company. Service has always been 1st class.
Everyone with this issue should call AppleCare to complain. The more calls, the higher the priority it will receive. -
Nov 1, 2010 6:03 AM in response to Arcade99by chrisedmo,Interesting - just got off the phone to Applecare UK and the guy there said they have heard of the problem... and that on most TV's under settings you need to change the HDMI input settings to type = computer. (He said that there are different input types you can choose from?) Annoyingly I'm not with my TV to try it out? -
Nov 1, 2010 6:43 AM in response to chrisedmoby iLove-Apple,Hi,
I couldn't find anything like that on my TV set. It sounds strangely unfamiliar as well, HDMI does not have different input types, just different standards for encryption/3D etc.
My TV and my HDMI cable both support the newest standards, so that shouldn't be it. I'm doing a firmware update for my TV though, just to be on the safe side.
Hopefully there is an aTV update coming! -
Nov 1, 2010 7:40 AM in response to chrisedmoby rsraby,I've just checked four models from three different mainstream manufacturers and none of them had an option to change HDMI settings to "computer". A quick online check of manuals of well reviewed current models suggests that such an option is not at all common... That said, it sounds as though Apple is working on a fix, and I am encouraged that Apple UK are now acknowledging the issue. -
Nov 1, 2010 9:54 AM in response to rsrabyby steve_acp,The 200hz Philips (mine is the 9664) sets have it buried in the menu, but don't bother, it makes no difference. If you are in a positionn to try it, do so and tell AppleCare that it doesn't work. It is important that they get the feedback that the problem is THEIRS and needs fixing! -
Nov 1, 2010 11:14 AM in response to Arcade99by ancrix,Same problem with Sony Bravia...what should i do? I will call Apple Care tomorrow morning...but i think that Apple need to release one Update. -
Nov 1, 2010 3:59 PM in response to Arcade99by int77,I've got the same problem with ATV2 and Phillips 32PFL9604H (direct connection by 1m HDMI 1.4 cable). -
Nov 1, 2010 4:56 PM in response to chrisedmoby dadudeness,I cant change any HDMI-settings but that Bravia Sync stuff and I tried disabling that as well as keeping it enabled. Changes nothing...
Doing a full restore right now but Im not that hopeful...
BTW: he just finished that and Im a little confused. The full restore is described as setting everything back to factory settings including a full reinstall of the current firmware. But he still knows my iTunes account, is still named the way I did, knows my wifi AND turned pink/green again this moment.
Buggy!! -
Nov 1, 2010 5:27 PM in response to Arcade99by lineout,Can someone post the Apple Support contact details. I want to raise it with them and I encourage everyone else afflicted to do the same. If we keep complaining maybe they'll do something about it. -

Nov 2, 2010 10:17 AM in response to steve_acpby dadudeness,Just called AppleCare and asked them about the problem. The guy was aware of this issue and told me - what others reported as well - there was a walkaround especially for Sony and LG TVs by setting HDMI to PC-mode. Told him there was nothing to change in my TV's HDMI settings and I didnt know one model offering this settings either.
He told me every case was sent to the engineers and he's hoping there will be a fix soon. -
