Nov 12, 2010 9:15 PM in response to Arcade99by CmdrRayGun,Same 'Magenta World' problem and complete color washout.
Purchased the ATV2 last week connected to Philips 32PF9966 via HDMI cable. Changed cables without change.
I took the unit back to the Mac Store and they tested it and it worked just fine.
They said they haven't heard of any issues.
Called Apple this morning and the dude was not much help, said he hadn't heard of the problem but was pretty adamant it was a TV issue and not his. Don't talk to John if you want help;-)
Obviously a color mapping issue and kinda bummed out. -
Nov 12, 2010 9:47 PM in response to CmdrRayGunby CmdrRayGun,I just performed a system restore and during the download/update process was the first time I'd seen a black screen with Apple logo. I was pretty excited thinking they had written a fix, but after restart, MAGENTA!!! -

Nov 14, 2010 3:27 AM in response to KeithJennerby fairow,I took the apple TV back. I love Apple (Having been with them exclusively for 20 years) but am fed up with their lofty holier than thou attitude. Got a refund and will buy again when they get their act together. It always seems to be someone else's problem. Reading the rest of the forum for Apple TV it really is a widespread problem covering many TV manufacturers. Big thumbs down for Apple TV for me. I've learnt with Apple not to buy a product for a few months after it arrives. They never fess up initially even if it is their problem. 2 out of 10. -
Nov 14, 2010 4:23 AM in response to Arcade99by nicor2k,I made a video of the Apple TV connected to a Philips 8404 via HDMI just to show how the problem looks like (hopefully this helps any of the Apple engineers...)

Dont let an Apple phone support tell you that it is a TV problem. First of all it is clearly a problem across numerous types of TVs that have no problems with other devices. If you bought a DVD player and it didnt work would you expect to have to buy a new TV?
Secondly and more importantly other Apple staff have acknowledged there is a problem. Ask to be put through to a product specialist, the people who first answers your call might not know the details but they should have access to product specialists who in turn can access engineers reports. I rang a couple of weeks ago and was put through to a specialist who read out the engineers report discussing the problem; it was reported on October 11th and last updated on November 3rd. They know there is a problem so dont let the first line support block you. -

Let's see what happens
Same TV.
I've also updated. No good news. :-|
What shall we do? Really...it's getting quite incredible now...we don't even know if there'll be an Apple TV2 firmware update....and even if there'll be we're absolutely NOT certain that the issue will be solved!!!!
It's really frustrating... -
Nov 15, 2010 1:51 PM in response to dpicciottoby Caveat Gez,Adding my name to this very long list....
Just put up a post wondering idly if anyone at all would understand this magenta screen issue, and, well looks like I've joined the party.
I went into the apple store in c garden and its a shame they didnt pull up this post...now I know its not my TV and HDMI setup but another fault.
Rented a film last night which was spoilt by the pink screening- tempted to ask for a refund seeing as its a know issue -
Nov 15, 2010 2:13 PM in response to Caveat Gezby Andy T Wilson,Caveat Gez,
I purchased an ATV2 many weeks ago now. Same issues as everybody is experiencing here. I rented a movie, which was totally ruinned by this issue. On average I had to pause the movie and change input to rectify the magenta issue every 8 minutes!!!
I reported it as an issue from 'my account' to iTunes and they refunded the cost of the rental, so you should definitely report it.
I spoke to technical support 2 weeks ago. They said that they knew about the issue and were working on a solution. The guy told me it was definitely an issue with the firmware on apples device. Let's hope they push out a fix soon!
Cheers,
Andy

Nov 15, 2010 3:37 PM in response to Andy T Wilsonby Borja Marcos,I've called the Apple Store to return it. I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived next day. Unfortunately, incompatible with my TV set.
I hope they will straighten this issue soon, and it will be the right time to buy it. -
