Nov 19, 2010 5:54 AM in response to Arcade99by Sjefkoning,I just had a couple of phone calls with Apple Care Support staff. Apple acknowledges the problem exists in combination with popular Sony and Philips TVs and engineers have started an investigation to this problem 2 weeks ago. Status is that they do not have a resolution to the problem yet, but believe it is caused by Apple TV software. A fix will most likely be in the form of a software update. No timing for resolution could be provided at this time.
In the mean time I find it to some extent frustrating that Apple was fully aware of this issue at the time I bought this device (1,5 week ago), yet the Oberhausen Apple Retail Store staff was not able to warn me that I was about to purchase a product that had a big chance to not properly work on a Philips/Sony TV (which are amongst the most common brands in Europe). I would at least have expected that there would be some internal communications within Apple to its retailers about this issue.
Will give it a couple of weeks more to see whether Apple is able to release a software update that fixes this issue, otherwise return the product and ask for cashback. -
Nov 19, 2010 6:22 AM in response to TPTottixby sjerrf,Same here! Every ten minutes the screen goes magenta. Al other devices on my 47" Ambilight work well. When can we expect a fix for this issue? -
Nov 19, 2010 1:47 PM in response to sjerrfby fiffi73,I have the same problem with a sony tv.
Should i wait or give it back to apple - i don´t know.

Nov 19, 2010 2:57 PM in response to fiffi73by CmdrRayGun,I'm going to wait them out. Hope they are getting the message. -
Nov 20, 2010 3:23 AM in response to Arcade99by Bachmaier,Same Problem here:
Salzburg Austria, bought for 1 week via Apple Store Austria.
Plugged in via HDMI on my 8 month old Philips 42PFL8684H/12. This TV has no HDMI Problems with other devices... only the new Apple TV makes the often postet problems... switching aftet 15-20 min to green and invert the colors... after 2-4 min turns back to normal.
hope an update to 4.1 will solve the problem.
I like this small apple tv.. but this handshake problem is not realy funny:-( -
Nov 20, 2010 3:42 AM in response to Bachmaierby wsyro,Hello to all members here having troubles with ATV and the HDMI handshake.
Just connected my new ATV2 directly to my Philips 32PFL8404H. Everything worked fine - for 20 minutes.
I'm really hoping the problem will be solved soon. -
Nov 20, 2010 8:15 AM in response to Arcade99by sebman1,I received mine 2 days ago (from Apple Store France).
Same problem of inverted colors with Philips LCD TV 47'' (47PFL7864H).
I've tried the 4 HDMI input ports, tried changing TV parameters, but without resolving the problem.
Waiting for ATV2 software update? Did anyone have an idea of the date of this release?
Thanks -

Nov 20, 2010 11:36 AM in response to Arcade99by swiss_dom,Hy
exact same problem with my absolutely new Sony 47"... waiting for an update for AppleTV. -
Nov 21, 2010 2:42 AM in response to Arcade99by mkoehler,Same here from Switzerland. I installed my ATV yesterday and about half an hour later the colors inverted. I first thaught it was a stylish element in the Youtube movie i was watching. Then it happened watching photos form iPhoto. I too have a 40" Philips LED LCD PFL 9704. Changing HDMI channels or send the ATV to sleep, corrects the issue for some minutes.
The software is iOS 4.0. It sure will recieve an update to 4.2. like iPad and iPhone for airplay to work with those devices. I hope it will be cured then... I'll wait. -
Nov 21, 2010 8:32 AM in response to mkoehlerby Galicki,The same problem: APTV + Sony Bravia 40EX600 LED, this issue is driving me crazy... -
Nov 21, 2010 8:56 AM in response to Arcade99by fabian9,I have (since last posting to this forum) changed my TV to a Samsung and now have no color issues at all anymore. Good thing the TV was only 2 weeks old so no problem returning it…. -
Nov 21, 2010 9:36 AM in response to Arcade99by TheOWL,Hi everyone! I have the same problem: ATV2 + Sony Bravia 40EX600.
Tried changing the HDMI cable. It didn't solve. Now I expect a software update from Apple.
I can't believe Apple is behaving like this. They introduced ATV2 here in Italy almost 3 months after USA and the issue was already out there. I trusted them and bought it without checking these discussions, but now I'm very upset.
They should have advised: ATV2 is great but only if you have not Philips or Sony HDTVs!!
HEY APPLE!!! Do you care of customer satisfaction?
Otherwise I will have to agree with all those people who think that Apple is good at taking our money but deaf when it comes to listening to our complaints. -
Nov 22, 2010 12:33 AM in response to Arcade99by Stephan Eberhardt,Hi there,
just for the records. Got the same problem with Atv2, Sony Bravia LCD, different Hdmi cables.
As it seems to be a firmware issue, we do have to wait, which is pretty much a PITA.
But hey, imagine this would be a Microsoft product... I guess the support would tell us "you have to enjoy the new movie watching experience and next week we're setting "Magenta/Green" as the all new standard for watching TV".
Yes it is annoying how a manufacturer like Apple who is well known for high quality consumer products, isn't able to fix such things as Hdmi-protocols in advance, I mean... This isn't a brand new thing...
But remembering the Bluetooth glitches at my iPhone... A standard is a standard is a standard, but maybe not for all of us. Apple is special ... Kinda.... -
Nov 22, 2010 2:43 AM in response to Arcade99by joanmam,I have the same problem with a Philips TV series 9000. It is NOT related to audio calbe plugging as some post mention. I do not use such cable and I have the same problem . The only way is unplug the HDMI cable manually or just reset.
