Q: HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

Dear all,

I used the old ATV for a long time and never had problems with it. Yesterday my new ATV 2 arrived. The setup was very easy but after a few minutes a problem with HDMI Handshake occurred and repeats at least every 20-30 minutes:

I get a green screen for one or two seconds and then the picture appears again with some kind of inverted colors.

I use a Philips 40 inch 7664 LED LCD with the newest firmware installed.

Any idea what I could to to fix this issue?

Thanks

I just spoke to an Apple Tech support guy from the UK.

He knew of the problem and said that for some phillips TV's there is a workaround. Change the HMDI mode to PC mode and use HDMI port 3.

It doesn't help me and my Bravia, but it might be of use to some of you.

He also said that Apple are taking it seriously and are working on a software patch, but at this time the ETA is unknown.

Just an update, Good luck to those of you with Phillips Sets !

I think that will be not the solution.

I´ve turned my Philips on PC Mode too..no solution

... tonight I will test from Side HDMI to the 3rd HDMI.

I have a Philips 9664, and happen to be in on HDMI 3. I have tried the PC mode, as suggested to me by apple in late October, but it does not work.

Remember to turn PC mode off afterwards if you try it, as it disables the perfect pixel stuff.

sorry to hear this guys, was just passing on the information.

I've found a PC Only HDMI socket on my bravia, according to the manual, so I'll test that tonight too.

You guys might want to contact apple about the phillips and tell them the work around isn't working, I got the impression they are focussing on the bravia now.

Well spotted, but I have just tried it on my Sony and the problem remains.

    Thanks, anyway.

I tried the PC Mode/HDMI 3 fix last week and unfortunately it didnt work for me. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try again tonight to make 100% sure I am in PC Mode and connected to HDMI3 at the same time.

Talked to Apple support for the third time about an hour ago. Got the HDMI3 and PC-mode advice for my Phillips, which I told them did not work 2 weeks ago and still don't. Tech support supposed that it was a Philips problem because the ATV2 would work with other TVs, ok, they had heard about some Sonys too ... (If I were Philips or Sony I would suggest that it's an Apple problem as all other HDMI connected devices works fine with their TV sets). I talked to general support, tech support and the Apple Store and believe me, they don't know how to solve it and accordingly they don't have a time table. Tech support told me that Apple and Philips are working together to find a solution and that i could be a Philips firmware update ...
    Quite a mess.
The result of all this friendly and very polite talking: The Apple Store sends a parcel service to pick up the ATV2 at my home and i'll get the money back. I will now wait until Apple, Philips, Sony, NASA and the United Nations have found a solution to the problem and then buy a new one, maybe an ATV3 ... I like the idea of the product very much.

Good luck to all of us.

Impressing. I hope that Apple takes a glance at that list.

No problem here with my Olevia and Bose system. My Olevia is 2 or more years old. Bose system is new. Put the APTV2 HDMI thru the Bose and then out to the Olevia. Incredible speed watching movies. Much better after firmware update to APTV2.

    Sounds like a PC problem.
