Q: HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

Dear all,

I used the old ATV for a long time and never had problems with it. Yesterday my new ATV 2 arrived. The setup was very easy but after a few minutes a problem with HDMI Handshake occurred and repeats at least every 20-30 minutes:

I get a green screen for one or two seconds and then the picture appears again with some kind of inverted colors.

I use a Philips 40 inch 7664 LED LCD with the newest firmware installed.

Any idea what I could to to fix this issue?

Thanks

My KDL-32EX402's manual says there was no difference between HDMI1-4 PC-mode-wise.

Yesterday I disconnected ATV2 from the mains, changed the HDMI port and fired it up again. I tried every port and a couple of minutes later every time it happened again. So I'm pretty sure I can confirm there's no specific PC-Mode port.
However, I just updated to M8.722 and will keep you guys up to date.

EDIT: M8.722 does NOT solve the problem!

just updated my Sony kdl-40ex600 firmware, as suggested, but everything is the same. After 20 min the screen goes pink.

It's not possible that Apple hasn't figured out yet the cause of this problem.
If it's hardware, then I want my money back.
If it's software, I'll wait another couple of weeks to give them the chance to release a bug fix, then I'll return my ATV2.

worst possible behavior, Apple!! Not even an official acknowledgment of the bug.

Couldn't agree more. Just had same issues with my Led Philips TV and Apple TV 2. What is disappointing is really Apple not giving any feedback whatsoever. I've been an Apple avid user since 1991.

This is likely going to be the first Apple product I will return! Really disappointed!

I was told they would do an update for the problem I was having ( downloading issues ) and they took care of it. They tend to be very quiet about their intentions. I just didn't use it until that update came. I trust apple will fix this problem. FYI- it is working great with my 2 year old Olevia. Very rapid starts. No glitches at all. Be patient.

Hope so, but so far weeks have passed and no answer. Hope some of the staff at Apple is reading this thread.

I tried with pc mode HDMI 3 and the iOS4.1 (4.2). It streams for a while and goes green, after a minute or two it returns to normal. Switching to another HDMI input and back again (using the remote not switiching the cable) returns it to black as well but thats not a proper solution and Apple still need to provide a patch.

Most of the customers with ATV2-HDMI-handshake-problems are from europe. Less customers from US are posting here about their problems. Nobody in the US owns a Philips or Sony LCD TV? Or is there something else?

I've got the same issue with my Sharp Aquos LC32GD6U.

Same screen worked for years with ATV1 without issue.

And I don't think this is region specific as plenty of posters (myself included) are in the US.

Its extremely important that apple continues to see heat on this subject. If anyone on the forum HASN'T contacted apple to complain about this, please do so, and reference the forum if possible. If you ask for an apple TV specialist, you may be able to get the to open a case number. Each case number will have to be closed off.

Phone numbers can be found here:-

    Thanks

i am having issues with ATV2 + HDMI + Dynex DX-L40-10A. The issue is so severe for my TV that the TV itself breaks and has been repaired three times now by Geek Squad. The TV is made from best buy and geek squad honors the warranty. this whole time i thought it was the tv just being a bad tv and nothing wrong with the apple wonder box. however after reading this thread and the number of different "good" tv models out there having similar issues, it is definitely ATV2.

Bought the ATV2 at an apple store in aventura mall (aventura, fl) a few days after it was released. nothing german about it. i have not yet contacted apple because again i thought it was an issue with the tv and not the atv2 itself. since a lot of you did contact them and made apple aware, i'll just sit back and wait for the fix.

    thanks.
