Q: HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

Dear all,

I used the old ATV for a long time and never had problems with it. Yesterday my new ATV 2 arrived. The setup was very easy but after a few minutes a problem with HDMI Handshake occurred and repeats at least every 20-30 minutes:

I get a green screen for one or two seconds and then the picture appears again with some kind of inverted colors.

I use a Philips 40 inch 7664 LED LCD with the newest firmware installed.

Any idea what I could to to fix this issue?

Thanks

My new atv has this problem too, but only with the Marantz AV receiver I wanted to hook it to.

Specifically, after I switch input sources on the receiver a couple of times, when I then go back to appletv, the tv screen is just black (with sometimes a little blip of static). The audio still works in that case, however.

So now I have the atv cabled directly into the tv (Panasonic plasma) and that seems to work fine. Once I get my toslink audio cable I can run the audio out from the tv into the receiver, so I can get the surround sound I want. But it does annoy me that I can't just cable the atv directly to the receiver.

I tried the 'hdmi reset' directions someone posted for marantz receivers, and it worked for about 20 min, then I was back to the old black screen problem.

This really *****, Apple. Please put out a fix soon.

Well, at least you have managed to get recognition from Apple that there is a problem and an estimated time schedule, well done!

I cant be bothered waiting that long, If they havent fixed it by now, it is obviously a serious problem. If it is software I am certain it would have been fixed by now, If this is a hdmi hardware incompatibility their is absolutely no guarantee of a solution.

I have spent to much time and effort in ripping my DVD collection to abandon the Apple TV, the Sony Bravia has to go.

The money I can get on ebay for it will get me a decent replacement (more or less), that I know will work.

Probably not a decision to everybody's taste, but it will solve the problem for me.

I picked up a new TV on my way home tonight. A Sanyo CE26LD08-B LCD TV. Plugged it in and it has been running fine for over four hours uninterrupted by the blue screen. Feels like luxury!

I liked the Bravia's elegant software more, but could not abide the interruptions. Going on ebay tonight!

Obviously not a solution for everybody, but in the end a quick fix for my Apple TV problem.

Hmmm don;t know what to do now, mine worked fine, the menu screen had bits missing that refreshed eventually but played movie,s great. Just installed the latest software and there is interference at the top of the picture like its not quite the right size? PS3 works fine as does the SKY HD box why cany Apple get this right? Every computer home and work is apple and I love the idea of ATV.

I have a Beovision 5 TV so wont be changing due to cost and why should I? I thought HDMI was supposed to be a standard everything else works with my TV why not this? Come on Apple!!!

Some minutes ago I read about a user on a german mac-website that he also has the color problem and he had a call with apple support. The support told him that Apple knows about the problem and that they have NO SOLUTION.

I've just bought apple TV here in Madrid (Spain) and I have the same problem with a Philips TV.
I suppose apple is working on this issue. Take a look:

We have a very nice 40" Philips 40PFL9704H/12 in our Uppsala, Sweden, apartment. I had planned to purchase an Apple TV here in Honolulu to take back to Uppsala on 19 January so that we could use the large screen on our TV to display content on our Macs. But with the apparent incompatibility between the Apple TV and our TV, I won't be buying an Apple TV until this problem is fixed. So Apple, if you want to sell me an Apple TV, please fix this problem before we leave Honolulu.
