Jan 24, 2011 3:57 PM in response to anger232by BatterseaDog,I also confirm that the IOS beta 4.3b with RGB High appears to have taken care of the problem. I just finished watching an entire 90 minute movie (streaming from my Macbook's iTunes) without colours inverting nor stutters. Feeling very confident that Apple's next firmware release will finally resolve the HDMI handshake issue.
My TV is the Philips 32pfl7404H. -

How to solve this problem?
I never expected such problem from apple product..
If you'd even read the last two pages of this thread, you'd know the answer to that. Instead you clutter the thread up, making it harder for those that do take the time to read it. -
Jan 25, 2011 3:54 AM in response to BatterseaDogby Mats Liljedal,This is really good news. I sent my ATV2 back to Apple month ago because of the handshake problem with my Philips. You can find my posts somewhere in the middle of this discussion. I have been missing it ever since and I will buy a new one after the release of 4.3. Thank you all for the positive information on this thread. -
Jan 25, 2011 4:17 AM in response to Mats Liljedalby Homerecordman,I hope that in the release of iOS 4.3 the option to change the video-mode (RGB/YMCK...) is still available. -
Jan 25, 2011 1:03 PM in response to Arcade99by Moonwalker83,Just upgraded to a Sony Bravia KDL32EX301U and get the green screen of death every 10 minutes or so Apple please get the update out asap! -
Jan 26, 2011 11:37 AM in response to BatterseaDogby zidragon,I have the same problem, and wait for the new IOS 4.3.
My TV is the Philips 42pfl7404H12. -
Jan 26, 2011 2:29 PM in response to zidragonby steve_acp,I uploaded the beta 4.3, and set to RGB high, and now I am cured!
Happy days! -
Jan 26, 2011 10:44 PM in response to steve_acpby Homerecordman,I think about buying the apple tv again and install the iOS 4.3 beta on it. Is this version stable or full of bugs? My biggest concern is, that in the final release of iOS 4.3 the option to change the video mode from "auto" to "RGB High" not longer exists. -
Jan 27, 2011 3:17 AM in response to Arcade99by comgil,I just installed the latest update (4.3b2). I still have some test to do but I am watching a movie (rental) on my Atv2 and no green screen of death after a while. Just before I tried the same movie and the green screen came quite rapidly.
So, YES the update 4.3 will correct the problem !!!
I have a Philips TV and I use the new setup "RVB High".
It is only now, almost 2 month after the purchase that I can use my item. I am happy but also a little sad that such a problem couldn't be solved quickier. -
Jan 27, 2011 3:31 AM in response to comgilby Gunken, same to me on my Phillips 47" TV.
After installing the 4.3 beta 2 Firmware and use the new setup "RVB High" - no problems in sight.

Jan 27, 2011 10:21 AM in response to Homerecordmanby tgibbs,By definition, a beta has potential bugs, although since it is the second beta, probably not too bad. If they thought that all the major bugs were probably fixed, it would be termed a "release candidate."
The fact that this option is in the beta means that Apple is trying to fix the problem (and apparently having some success). Presumably, Apple plans to have it fixed in the final release. On the other hand, a set of difficult-to-understand HDMI settings is very un-Apple, so it wouldn't surprise me if Apple is would like to eliminate these user options and have it happen automatically. -
Jan 27, 2011 11:45 AM in response to tgibbsby iLove-Apple,The beta worked for me as well (SONY KDL40BX400). Very rarely the picture still drops for a second or two (sometimes with, sometimes without the sound) but at least the picture is normal when it comes back. I think I can live with that, as it only occurs every few hours. "RGB High" FTW! I know I'm not supposed to install the beta, but they could at least create a quick update with the RGB component in there... since Apple doesn't do that, well... Fuq the system!
Btw, so far I haven't discovered any major bugs, sometimes the aTV would throw me back into the menu after a youtube video, but after disconnecting the power cable (hence deleting the temporary cache) the problem hasn't occured again.
One good thing that came out of all this: I got a 20€ rebate. At least it's something, right? -
Jan 27, 2011 11:57 AM in response to iLove-Appleby Coldfire,My thoughts exactly - just a minor update for us ATV2 owners to update and get those HDMI options. I'll probably skip the iOS update!
€20 for your distress over the green display? I can use this too -
Jan 28, 2011 4:14 AM in response to Arcade99by comgil,As I said yesterday the fix is to use IOS 4.3. The only way to install it today is to Get the latest beta (2), connect the atv directly on your computer with the micro USB connector, install the update via iTunes and in the new HDMI setting choose the one that fits the best (RGB High for Philips).
No problem for more than one day and multiple tests. Now I can really enjoy this cool gadget !
