email claims to be from Apple iTunes store, confirming a false "purchase" I made, with links that I know not to try. Looks legit, but I never made the purchase and anyway the numbers don't add up. Want to report it to iTunes but can't find the way to get to them. looks like this:
Order Number: 3263060
Receipt Date: 01/10/10
Order Total: $269.99
Billed To: Store Credit
Whatever You Like [Digital 45]
Write a Review Report a Problem $475.99
Yep, it's frustrating to me when I can't find a way to get in touch with the section of Apple's support personnel that I want. I got a fake iTunes receipt, too, and I finally called the Apple Store. I had hardly started explaining my problem when the Apple Advisor said that what I was describing was a hoax attempt and that Apple was already taking care of it. Then this morning I got another fake receipt, and it turned out to be an attempt to sell drugs of a sort that I don't need.
Over $900 for one song? And something not even on the iTunes store. I know prices have gone up, but really...
I was going to call Apple to complain or ask for an explanation, when I noticed the same impossible URL for all the links. Then I wanted to forward to Apple as an example of someone hijacking their receipt process, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. After trolling the forum, I see that I'm not alone. Hopefully, a "known issue" has a better chance of being solved.
I had to call Apple support this morning for another issue, and before you get to a live person there is a recording saying that they know about this situation and that the receipts did not come from Apple.
So, Apple knows about it. No need to report it.
You can always check your iTunes account to look up past purchases. That will immediately confirm that you didn't get charged.
