MPN on MAC OS 10.6.2

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find the MPN to register Iphoto.

when I follow the instructions, which are :

"if you are using a version of Mac OS X:

Click Finder in the Dock.
Choose “Applications” from the Go menu. A Finder window appears with a list of applications.
Locate and open the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Open “Apple System Profiler”. A window with information about your computer appears.
Click on the "System Profile" tab.
The computer’s MPN is located in the "Hardware Overview" section, next to the Sales Order Number label."

I found :

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.52f9
Serial Number (system): xxxxxxx
Hardware UUID: xxxxxxxxxx

Where is the MPN ?

Thanks

If, by "MPN," you mean "manufacturer's part number," then the instruction were wrong. The closest thing that System Profiler displays is the Model Identifier, in you case iMac10,1 which nicely returns a 21.5" iMac Late 2009 from the MacTracker database. It's possible that the item requested is the model number which is usually on the sticker with the serial number, or silkscreened on the case. Yours should be A1311.

If "MPN" means something else, then post back. This is a loooong list of things that use the "MPN" acronym.

I'm confused - why would you register iPhoto? There is absolutely no need to register it and no advantage of any kind if you do. Apple already knows that you have iLife because it is included with every Mac. Also, I've never heard of any "MPN" number unless they are referring to the manufacturer's part number for the software (which would not be part of your hardware's overview), but would be found on the package label. In any case, the only important number for any software you purchase would be a serial or registration key (number) - since iLife is already included, there is no need for either of those.

Slight thread creep:

Exactly the same situation as Gerardhino, but:

I was trying to register iWork, which does need a MPN.

The instructions Gerardhino followed are for an older version of Mac OS.

Other than the packaging, is there a way in OS X to find the MPN, etc?

Almost all software comes in pretty but junk packaging which is usually headed for the bin (I now mark the boxes "KEEP THIS BOX" in big letters . . . )

Thanks,

Robin..
