Podcasts not auto-deleting

I have the same problem, yet different. I set up auto delete after 10 episodes for certain news podcasts, but they do not auto delete. What is the problem here.

I am getting something slightly different - none of my podcasts set to autodelete in iTunes are deleting after I listen to them in either iTunes OR on my iPod Touch.

Same here but with iTunes 9.2. I noted that individual auto-delete settings per Podcast seem to be forgotten after a new start of iTunes.
My general prefs always say "delete viewed episodes" but apparently you still need to enable auto-delete per Podcast (via the Context-Menu of each Podcast entry)

I found a solution at least working for me on my MacMini which is not synced with my iPhone.
As iTunes on my MacMini does not update every day I sometime manually add missed episodes by pressing the little "Get" button. It turns out that this manual action resets the "auto-delete" function for this podcast. Thus the auto-delete for a particular podcast is only remembered without any manual "interference".

I think I just fixed this by changing the settings for all podcasts.
(Selecting All podcast, right-clicking and hitting 'allow auto delete didn't work).

Click on Podcasts, then on the 'Settings...' button, Settings for : Podcast defaults.
And that somehow was set to keep 'all' and when I changed it to 'all unplayed' and hit Refresh to check all podcasts, it started autodeleting again.

I am not sure if I have the same problem as the rest of the posters in this thread, but just today my podcasts are not auto-deleting either. I have my podcasts set up so that the only ones that are transferred to my iPhone are the ones that are not played yet. But for some reason three or four of them keep on getting transferred even though they have been played. Weird.

I figured out my problem. I had a few podcasts in a playlist and even though they were played, I still had the playlist automatically sync those podcasts.

And this setting was still active if you add manually a missed podcast episode? I tried the "settings for all podcast" method too but the autodelete setting did not last..

This just fixed my problem. Thanks!

I just spent a half hour in an apple store and talked to 4 different staff and showed them how the auto delete is not working. They finally decided it is an itunes bug. What to do? I listen to 200 podcasts. Imagine my misery of having to delete these episodes one at a time.

I reinstalled itunes and not the podcast auto-delete works.

Oh suck an egg -- with the new update the autodelete does not work anymore even tho' I reinstall. I'm ready to find an alternative to itunes now, although last time I complained about itunes, I was censored and couldn't post here.
