apple tv keeps cutting out

I have the 1st gen apple tv it's able to download movies but at some point when watching the movie it cuts out no sound no video. Then it will come back on an will do it again at some point. It's never been dropped, has no connectivity problems, and everything is plugged in correctly. What could be the problem? thanks!
