2010 Apple TV: Can't see "Computers" after iMac/ATV sleep

3-4 times now, I can't see my computer in the "Computers" menu after my iMac and/or Apple TV is in sleep mode. Home Sharing is on - on both my iMac and Apple TV - and my firewall is actually off. I have iTunes 10.0.1 and OS X 10.6.4. Each time I've had to quit and relaunch iTunes (I keep it and my iMac on all the time) or reset the Apple TV. When it works, it works great - I just keep losing the content from my iMac.

Thanks.

Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I wanted to pass along what worked for me since I've been trolling these forums for over 2 weeks trying to get the ATV to see iTunes after it mysteriously stopped working after a few days upon initial setup.

After trying almost every recommendation (I refused to reinstall iTunes), I followed someone's advice from another link...I REBOOTED THE ROUTER(FiOS ActionTec model). Voila, today I'm reconnected to iTunes and it's working great. I don't know how long it'll last, but at least it's a relatively simple fix even if it shouldn't be necessary.

I'm not usually moved to engage in forum discussions but I felt moved to on this one. I've just spent the best part of 2 days grappling with my new ATV box with the very same problems described here - constant loss of iTunes + image libraries when my Mac and / or ATV goes into sleep mode. No end of trying will revive it. Switch the whole smash off for a few hours and then reboot and presto it's back )for a while). I'm now considering ringing the shop (Stormfront Salisbury) for a refund. Apple is losing it with numerous dogdy hardware and software releases of late. We pay a big fat premium for their shiny little devices in sexy white boxes, but what's the point of they don't **** well work!!! I've been a loyal Apple user for 20 years. Time to rethink perhaps.

I too have been having problems with ATV2 not seeing "Computers" after the ATV2 and my iMac are asleep. Essentially the ATV2 sometimes wakes my iMac and sometimes it doesn't. (FYI: I'm running all the requisite hardware and software for wake on demand to work). I have been on the phone numerous times with AppleCare to no avail. After talking with a senior advisor last week, he had me upload the firmware again to my time capsule. It worked for two days and then this morning no luck. He think it's a problem with my TC and wants to send me a replacement. I'm not sure what to do at this point, but it is a very frustrating problem.

PS: I've been running iTunes 10.1 for the past three days so iTunes 10.1 has NOT fixed my problem.

Just picked up iTunes 10.1. Fingers crossed that it sorts out the issues!

No, hasn't fixed the problem. This morning went to turn on ATV2, and nothing..........just a blank screen!
Needed to do a reboot (menu/down buttons for 5 secs,...........I'm getting quite good at this now!) to get it working again.

Btw, the jeb2u comments that the Senior Apple advisor says it's a TM problem................how on earth can that be?

The advisor I spoke with said he took my problem (and logs from Console from my Mac) to the engineers. They had no reports of this problem. I pointed the advisor to this thread (and a couple of others which also feature wake problems) and he said he was going to take a look at them. So just keeping my fingers crossed that either the new TC fixes the problem, or now that the engineers are aware of the problem it gets fixed with a software update.

I don't hold out much hope...........
I also pointed advisors at these threads, but when questioned later, it turns out that none of them could be bothered to read them.
I've read many threads about ATV2 where the advisors have not heard of any of the problems........in fact, the only problem they seem aware of is the HDMI handshake issue.

I just called to inform them that I'm experiencing the problem and I, too, pointed them towards these threads. Hopefully, if a bunch of us with this problematic situation call in and add our voices to the support lines, they will concentrate on the issues and get them resolved.

Personally, with the iTunes issues I began to experience with v.10.X, I suspect this is a software issue that is likely to be resolved with iOS 4.2 or beyond and, perhaps another update to iTunes.

Similar challenge. My phone is bundled with Time Warner on my router, and it appears the interference from the phone would cause my Library's to blink in and out. If I unplug the phone and restart Airport, it appears instantly. So far on testing the iMac/sleep interruption, I dont have a problem yet, but I'll continue to tinker and try to replicate the conditions that can cause it and post results.

agree. i think i hoped too early. 10.1 worked for a few days perfectly but then increasing frequency of failure to connect to the point where i am now back to an inoperable square of black plastic with an apple logo on it.

I agree. Since 10.1 I now need to reset ATV2 (press and hold menu/down buttons for 5 seconds) EVERY time I want to use it.
One step forwards, two steps back!
