iPhone Software Update times out

It happened to me also. What I finally did was to temporarily disable my Anti-Virus program,,,,and it downloaded without incident. Prior to disabling my anti-virus program I closed all programs.

There are several possibilities. The most common is that your antivirus or firewall is blocking the download. Or that your router is blocking the download port.

An uncommon but possible cause is a TCPWindowSize parameter in the registry is incorrectly set.

I couldn't find that specific error code, but I found the range:

+Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.+

If the error occurs after downloading it probably means that the file was corrupted during the download. The file size should be 391,184, so the fact that your file size is very different indicates that this is the likely problem.

The 391K is the file size of my .ipsw file. I have a 3GS, it may be a different size for other models. I don't know if all phones have the same firmware or if it differs by model. The filename is iPhone2,14.1_8B117Restore.ipsw.

There's a small chance that the file you downloaded is modified, but unlikely. I don't think it will do any harm to install it.

I had the same problem, I could not get it to download and install, the last meg to download after 23 minutes would come up and say "error, your connection timed out". I disabled my antivirus software and disabled the Microsoft Firewall and everything downloaded and installed the update just fine.

Got the network timed out message until I disabled my anti-virus software. All went smoothly after that.

I am running Windows 7 with no spy ware or anti virus protection. I was having the time out problem as well. I had windows defender enabled. I disabled it and it downloaded great.
