no wifi ios 4.1 problem

I have a 3gen Ipod touch and it worked great until I installed the 4.1 ios update now I can't get on any wifi network. it constantly says No Wifi. I have restored, reset everything even restored and set up as a new Ipod and nothing works. I believe the Ios 4.1 update is the problem I dont believe that there is anything wrong with the Ipod touch itself. dose anyone know how I can down grade to 4.0 it worked fine on that Ios. thanks

I have this same problem, everything was perfect on my 2nd gen 32gb ipod touch until this stupid new update, now I get no wifi, and when my battery dies it also re-sets the date and time...this never happend before....it really *****, and it seems that Apple offers virtually no support at all for their products without you having to pay extra for them to help you. I'm extremely disappointed.

same over here.. I inherited an iphone 3g at my work and as I was not satisfied with my htc (sense, touch hd2) I wanted to give the iphone a shot. As it was new for me I upgraded to the latest iOS as suggested by iTunes.. Before I did that I saw wifi working sharp and smooth, after the upgrade to iOS 4.1, wifi-networks failed to be detected.
I wish Apple would address this issue soon, and cmmunicate about it even sooner.. similar issues with older iOS upgrades causing wifi to fail on 3G took about half a year before being resolved.. please make the evil go away sooner then that 😉

Well it's not iOS4, or 4.1 unless you have lost the option for WiFi entirely (grayed out option). There are three simple things you can do to get this fixed:

1. Reboot the router (just unplug it from the wall)
2. Reset the touch network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
3. Log back into you network as if it is a brand new network - tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security settings, and network password.

If that doesn't do it, then repost with some additional details - i.e. error messages you might have received, router/network information, encryption used, etc.

I am having the exact same problems as you are and nothing I do fixes it. My daughter has the same exact ipod and hers is working fine cause she did not do the update. Now my battery is draining super super fast. The ipod is basically useless right now. I wonder since I bought the extended warranty at best buy from Geek Squad if I could take it back there?

I'm really disgusted with Apple at the moment. I used to have an apple computer and the support was wonderful, I'm glad I don't now though. Now you have to pay extra for someone to help you. And that is after paying through the nose for the device in the first place. What a shame. Shame on you apple! I have a brand new $450 device that is not working as expected and you tell me I can only call once in the next three months? That is really poor customer service.

I have the same issue going on with both a generation 3 and generation4 iPod Touch running 4.1. Both works OK at home (dLink DIR-655) but will not work at all at my schools (school administrator). The issue that I believe is the problem with 4.1 is that with older wireless Access Points that are only broadcasting a/b (won't work) and those broadcasting b/g/n (like my home router/AP that will work).

The odd thing is that I get an IP address from the DHCP server at my schools, but do not get the wireless connection icon in the status bar. Thus I get the famous, "Unable to connect to the internet" error. Using an iPod Touch with 3.1 I have no problems at all connecting to the internet.

My conclusion: OS 4.1 did something to create an issue with connecting to an AP running a/b. OS 3.1 (and maybe the other 3.1.x also worked but haven't checked). I'm going to check to see if disabling "a" and just leaving "b" active on my school's AP might makes a difference. Since my home router/AP doesn't run "a" (b/g/n), I thought maybe that might be an issue.

Hope this might give others a place to look----and maybe Apple to jump in with those of us using old AP within a school setting. Looking forward to resolving this as we have well over 650 iPods in our schools and we're in the process of updating the OS on everyone of them.
