I just got an Iphone 4 couple of weeks ago, and just the other day the camera light comes on and will not turn off. I had a flashlight app and opened it and tried turning it off and then on again but got no where. So then I deleted the app and hard reset the phone but still nothing. So I let the phone die hoping that the light would go out. Well it has been 15 hrs since my phone turned off and the light is still on. It is much dimmer than before but I can't believe that there is still juice in the battery. Does anybody have any ideas. Thanks

Mac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

    Have you tried a restore?

I have several times and nothing. I am on the phone right now with Apple trying to figure out what is wrong and the guy on the other end says it is a first for him.

Have you had any luck fixing this? I have the same problem. It seems if I twist the phone ever so slightly the light will go off, but it comes back on if the phone is handled in any normal fashion.

That sounds like a hardware issue.

Make an appointment at the local genius bar or call Apple support. If the iphone is defective and under warranty, then they will replace.

I've been having this problem as well.

It will dim itself randomly, it will go off for a few days, then be at full brightness for periods of time too. It's really bright and this is total craziness.

My first apple product and just my luck.

Telus prob won't do crap and I'll be out of a phone for a while =(

What happens if you open up the camera app and turn the flash off from there? I would think that it would not remain on through a restore. Very odd.

That does not help unfortunatley.. I downloaded a few light apps trying the same.

If you turn the phone TOTALLY OFF it STILL stays on even... the only time it will turn off is when the battery is dead.

    This is totally ridiculous!

what a POS phone, never have I had such an issue with a smart phone like this.

between dealing with this and the massive amounts of data this burns, I totally should have stuck with blackberry!

Please keep us updated on this issue. Mine randomly decided to do this to me today too and I cannot get it to turn off! Now I hear cracking sounds, presumably from the heat build-up. It doesn't sound good at all.

I've now got the same problem. I was just using my phone then after finishing what I was doing noticed my iphone camera light was on. Tried everything. Went through all the settings. Turning the phone off. A restore, and still not fixed.
The light stayed on all through the restore!
I've also found that the camera does indeed turn off if I was to slightly bend the phone.

The light being on also makes the phone overheat. I got a message on the phone soon after this happened that the iphone was overheating...

If there is a fix for this without having to go to an apple store i'd like to hear it as the closest apple store is about 3 hours away...

Would the telco (Vodafone AU) replace the phone if I take it in to them?

Delete ALL apps that use the Camera flash. Even Red Laser etc. Then do a hard restore. This should solve your problem. The reason you are having the problem is that a couple of the APPS that you have downloaded have conflicting software in the registry.
Remember you must delete any APP that makes use of the camera flash.

I don't have any apps that use the camera flash at all.
And it's not a software problem AT ALL. It's most definently hardware (as slightly flexing the phone turns the light off).

I just had this problem today and the slight twist made mine turn off. Definitely a hardware problem. And weird.

I bought a new iPhone4 yesterday and have the same problem. The LED flashlight was going on and off intermittently, depending on the way I held the phone (although no pattern could be detected). And now it stays on all the time, even when the phone is switched off. V/strange. Will take it back to Telenor Sweden today and ask them.

I haven't yet taken the phone back to Telenor. I wanted to see if I could establish a pattern and indeed the light only comes on, and stays on, after the phone has been in my jacket for some minutes. Very strange. And then I can make the light disappear after some repeated touches to the light cover. Sounds like flakey hardware.
