How to change behavior when inserting SD Card

Hello,

how can I change the default program that starts when I insert an SD Card? Right now it is some piece of software directly from a camera manufacturer. But not all my SD Cards are used in Cameras so I would like to change it. I know that uninstalling this camera software is an option, but I hope there is a better way to do it, though I haven't found something in the settings menu (there is something similar for video and audio CDs but nothing for SD)

Try changing the setting from Image Capture's or iPhoto's preferences.

Ok, the "piece of software" is the Canon ImageBrowser. When inserting an SD Card it starts a special CardUtility. I checked the softwaresettings of the ImageBrowser and the CardUtility, but didn't find any entry about starting behavior. Both setting screens are very small with only a few options, so I am sure it is not there.

Open Image Capture or iPhoto in your Applications folder and change the setting. It's not in the software you looked at.

Thank you. I found the setting in iPhoto. Sadly there is no option like "choose different program" so it seems that I can not choose freely about what my Mac should do when I insert an SD Card. Anyway I got rid of this stupid CameraUtility Window, so thank you very much!

For future reference, it's seldom if ever necessary to use any software provided with a still camera. If you simply connect the camera by the USB lead and switch on, it should mount as a USB drive on the desktop and you can do what you want with it from there.

Don't forget to eject the drive before switching off the camera or disconnecting.
