I just got off the phone with support and they had me load the 27" software update Again! And told me to call back if it continues. If you are having this issue please call Apple so it will get some visibility. I told him there are threads going in this forum and on the MacRumors website with the same issue but they need to hear from us. He gave me a case number to call back on because I told him I will be calling every time it happens.

Dont know about you guys but I expect the sound to work all the time on a $1000.00 monitor!

fox7's solution of shutting down, then unplugging the power to the display allows the sound to work again.

fox7's solution isn't really a solution. It only works temporarily.

My quick fix is to hit the sound keys on the keyboard. Sound will play for a bit until it decides to stop working again.

Can someone please mark this thread as UNANSWERED?

Having the issue again this morning, calling Apple Support to document the issue once again.

I'm having the same issue with my new 27" display - older Mac Mini, shutting down the computer and turning it back on again restores the sound. I'm also not seeing the "LED Cinema - DisplayPort" option in the Sound preferences and am using the "Display Audio - USB" option.

    BUMP +1

Yes. I'm having this same issues. I have two 27" displays and one still has audio when the main display's audio dies.

I also have strange lagging issues, as others reported.

I have no preference file to delete and the "unplugging/plugging" fix is only temporary. It does however fix the problem.

Both iSight cameras work so far. Both microphones work. USB ports work perfectly.

The display works fine although during one try of Migration Assistant, it was flickering/static and lost signal a few times. (Though this might just be an isolated random occurrence)

Sounds like a software update to me too.

    Thanks for the post all.

Audio from the display not working this morning after working fine for a couple of weeks. Called support. They had me do the "unplug hold power button 5 secs" trick. Works again. But I explained that this is obviously a widespread issue. They gave me a case number. I think they are tracking this and I would expect a permanent fix pretty soon.

Well here is my latest update, after 4 calls over a period of two weeks I just got off the phone with Apple support and they are sending me a new monitor. This makes me think this issue is not software related so if you are having this issue I suggest you get calling and call every time it occurs, that is what I did. I will let you know when I receive the new one and if it has the same issue.

    Same issue here.

I've noticed that while this issue is happening, the volume adjustment is really slow. I hit the buttons on my keyboard to raise/lower the sound, and the icon in the UI doesn't popup for a couple seconds. It's acting sluggish.

    Apple? Are you listening?

My new monitor does the same and since it hasn't been two weeks yet, I'm considering returning it. What do you all think?
  • atmcclain Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
My personal opinion - this really doesn't seem like a hardware issue. I'm not at all sure that returning the monitor and getting a new one would solve the issue. It seems very likely (given the large number of responses on this thread) that you'd end up with the same issue all over again. Except you would have had to box everything up, drive to the store and back, etc. My hope is that any day now there will be a "Cinema Display 1.0.1 Software Update" that will resolve everything...

Of course I really have no way of knowing - I am surprised that Apple doesn't have reps who monitor these forums and could post with some useful information.

I was just thinking this morning though that I'll go through the trouble to at least call and get a ticket number, in case it does turn out to be a hardware issue or something else that requires replacement / repair.

    Best - ATM

I have this same issue. I added more details about the problem in this (larger) thread:

When I called support, I mentioned that I saw from the forums that a lot of people were having the same problem. The "senior advisor" said "Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time looking through the forums". I said "Well, neither do I, until I have a problem."

It seems to me it would be a good idea for Apple to have someone listening/interacting on these forums. It has been useful for me to at least know that some others are having the same problem, you'd think that would be useful information for Apple Support, too!

Everyone who has this problem should call Apple Support and get a case number. I imagine that is something they monitor.

One day old monitor - same issue.....Need a software update Apple......

I'm having the same issue. Restarting worked a few times (stopped working after about 2 times) but in the end I needed to unplug the power to the monitor to get it to work again.

I'm using a Mac Mini bought Feb of this year. Are there any updates yet?
