Power adapter for a 2008 Apple MacBook

I have a 2008 Apple Macbook and am trying to get hold of a new power adapter, mine is broken. I was told at the Apple store that I would need to get a special adapter - where can I get hold of a new power adapter for my 2008 Apple MacBook

Thankyou

Does your power connector look like this rectangular one:

If so, then you need this power adapter available from the Apple Store:

[http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC461LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTMzODAwMDI|ht tp://store.apple.com/us/product/MC461LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTMzODAwMDI]

(If you have a 15" or 17" Macbook Pro, then you want the [85w version|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC556LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTc0Nz A0MjY].)

Magsafe type adapters like this are available at the Apple Store, Bestbuy, Amazon, etc.
