Dec 5, 2010 6:48 AM in response to yoshi2000by Nisei,Same problem here.
My GF has downloaded a lot of iTunes U files but even when I right-click her iPad in iTunes and choose "Transfer Purchases" the iTunes U files are NOT copied to the iTunes library. I don't dare to use sync because that warns me the files on the iPad will be replaced by iTunes U files in the iTunes library. -
Dec 5, 2010 10:01 AM in response to Niseiby Erik Keller,I downloaded two lectures to my iPhone while on the road, when I synced the iPhone, the lectures showed up in my iTunes library in the iTunes U section.
I'm not saying that this will work in any case, I just know it works when the device is synced with the library it is usually synced.
A message saying 'be careful I'm going to wipe your iPad' usually means, that you are trying to sync the iPad with a different iTunes library.
Just a thought. -
Dec 9, 2010 1:50 AM in response to Erik Kellerby Nisei,Well, all the other items (music, books, apps) do get transfered when I'm using the "Transfer purchases" option and she only has 1 library and 1 computer so it's really strange the iTunes U episodes won't transfer. I think the whole syncing procedure is crap anyway. I know it's meant to keep people from transfering copyrighted material from 1 device to another but it doesn't make sense at all for free stuff like iTunes U and podcasts. I've solved my problem by buying a third party program which can transfer files both ways but it's ridiculous I had to pay just to transfer free files because Apple won't let me. -
Feb 27, 2011 8:33 PM in response to Niseiby benjaminRRR,The transfer purchases option does indeed allow you to get the iTunes U material over without wiping it off your iPhone/iPad. What may have prevented the purchases from transferring properly is if the iTunes account was not authorized to complete the transfer.
To authorize:
Go to the menu item Store->Authorize This Computer
To transfer:
Go to your iPad/iPhone device icon, right(command)-click and select Transfer Purchases.

Mar 16, 2012 3:29 AM in response to yoshi2000by preyes323,I have a similar problem. As mentioned in one of the replies, everytime I connect my iPad, SOME of the downloaded iTunes U courses are automatically transferred. My problem is that SOME of the downloaded content through my iPad are not being transferred over. Anyone have any update on this?

Apr 2, 2012 11:48 AM in response to yoshi2000by sdussin,I am having a similar problem. I've downloaded the entire content for the CMU class on visulization on the iPad. When I sync'd my iPad none of the episodes were trnsferred to the iTunes library, and all of the episodes on my iPad were deleted.
Way to go Apple...

Jun 17, 2012 1:43 AM in response to Jake_theby foresight,Tipard. I didn't download it, only read the description. Full version costs $35.
The original question I think was about transfer of iTunes U files to library.
Tipard solution is backup to PC.
There is free solution for backup, probably less elaborated but still working:
i-FunBox http://i-funbox.com/
When device connected go to //private/var/mobile/Media/Podcasts
Select files and press "Copy To PC"

Jun 27, 2012 8:11 PM in response to yoshi2000by hhcfate,Hi there, I have the same problem. I had over 100 podcasts and items in iTunes U and when I synced, they were all wiped out on my ipad . That's even with my AppleID signed in. I do not understand why the items I subscribed to not logged on my AppleID just like the apps and music purchased. Now I have lost everything. Could some one help me get them back?

Jun 27, 2012 8:18 PM in response to Hananiby hhcfate,I think the question was to transfer or sync iTune U materials from iPad back to PC.
-
Jun 29, 2012 12:58 AM in response to foresightby foresight,As of having the materials subscribed in iPad back in PC, the solution in my case was simple in the end.
I did a search and found all the iTunes U materials in the folder C:\Users\<myuser>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\iTunes U.
