ITunes10 64bit Bug: Library Sharing not working

Ever since I upgraded Library sharing stopped working (it last worked in Version 8).

I think the problem is with itunes 64bit. I just uninstalled all Apple Stuff (including Bonjour, Quicktime and Updater) and reinstalled, but still use the same Library.

Sharing from the Notebook (32bit Win7) to AppleRemote (Ipad) or the PC (64bit Win7) works.

But sharing from the MainPC (64bit Win7) on the remote network doesn't work.

I double-checked the Windows Firewall (itunes + bonjour are coming thru)?

Has anybody got more tips for me?

Cheers
Leonard

A little update:

I just created a new empty library (holding the Shift-Key while starting Itunes) and imported just one CD. Still the same problem.

Starting itunes as Administrator also doesn't change anything.

With the ipad-app "Apple Remote" the Device appears, I enter the correct passcode, and then, nothing at all happens.
On the Notebook the Library now appears on Apple Remote and I can remote control it.

Once again the only apparant difference being, the Notebook is Windows 7 32Bit and the PC ist 64Bit

Cheers

Once again updating and hoping (praying) somebody will get this:

I still cannot get Library Sharing to work, and I think it is a bug with Windows7 64 Bit Version:

1) Uninstall

I have uninstalled everything as per Knowledge Base http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

I even removed all regstry-entries pointing to Apple software (mainly under HKLM and HKLU). I removed all "Apple Computers" Folders in USER\AppData

2) Re-Install

Reboot & Clean reinstall

New empty itunes library (Removed old itunes Folder in MyMusic)
Imported one CD

3) Sharing

Turned on sharing in the settings.
Started up another PC: nothing:
Started up Apple Remote (2.0.1 - 229) on iPad (iOs 4.2.1): Entered correct four digit code in Itunes
A greyed-out Itunes symbol without a name appears (normally reading "BlaBlas Library")

4) Sharing Part 2
Using the other Computer (Notebook W32bit)
using sharing feature in the other direction (Notebook -> Windows 7 64Bit PC) works
Apple Remote to this PC also works.

5) Sharing Part 3
Created an entire Blank new User with a new empty Itunes Library. Imported one CD: Same Problem.

Conclusion: Bonjour or some other component of ITunes sharing is broken. What should I do. Can I leave a bug report somewhere?

Please help me!

You are not alone, brother. I am experiencing this exact same behavior.

It seemed to start when I switched from iTunes 9.x to the 64 bit version of 10.1. I'm using 64 bit Windows 7.

I cannot see network shares that used to appear without incident in 9.x. In fact, I see NO network shares at all when I should be seeing about a dozen.

I made sure that Bonjour, Bonjour Service, and iTunes are all able to communicate through Windows Firewall.

No idea what to do now.

Yes, I also vaguely remember that the update to 10 broke this.

I am now on ITunes 10.1.1.4 and it is still broken.

I still think it's the Bonjour (the DLNA thingy that "magically" connects different itunes installs) component, but without a method to debug this, I can just guess.

I also hope that Apple will NEED to fix this, as about 7 Million People now have iPads and some are bound to have Win7 64Bit and will want to use the new Airplay features (which don't work with 64bit)....

Anybody know if I can somehow make an official bug report? After all we own one spanking new iphone4 and this ipad. Can I make a report without spending money (for a problem I didn't cause)?

Cheers

It's working OK for me on my Win 7 64-bit PC. So it's not necessarily broken everywhere.

I can see a Mac and an XP machine both ways with Home Sharing. I don't have the Win 7 HomeGroup stuff enabled since I only have the one Win 7 machine.

First off, do you even see the regular sharing? You're right, Bonjour control itunes sharing. Both regular and home sharing. If you temporarily turn off Home Sharing and do not see even the regular sharing, that would imply a problem with Bonjour or not being on the same subnet.

In your first post you mention
+But sharing from the MainPC (64bit Win7) on the remote network doesn't work.+
What do you mean about remote network? If it's not on the same subnet it won't work.

I agree with the 64 bit iTunes 10 bug. Home share works great on my wifes laptop with Vista 32b and iTunes 9.I have not updated to 10 and will not untill problem is resolved. Also works with Vista desktop with iTunes 10. go figure. It shows the Home Share tab on the left side on both and works as designed. Both machines with out 64 bit version of itunes work! They will even recognize my laptop (the one with Itunes 10 for Win 7 64 bit) libary and import from it. So I would say the all mighty Apple has an issue here with iTunes 10 for Win7 at least on my laptop it doesn't work. Maybe someday ..... sometimes I effing hate this crap.

No it's not the Firewall

For all who want to check their settings: Go to "Start - Control Panel" - "Windows Firewall"
Go to "Advanced Settings"
Look at "Inbound Rules" and "Outbound Rules".
Find "Bonjour" and iTunes. They should both exist and have Action: Allow Enabled: Yes and from "Local Address" to "Allowed Computers" it should always say Any

Bonjour has two rules (TCP and UDP), itunes has one (TCP)

And btw: normal network sharing (Win7) works for me.

So: No, it's not network related, it is Apple related

About Bonjour.

Everybody who has a problem in Win7 64bit should look at the Event Viewer (Windows-Key and R, then enter "eventvwr")

I have the following Bonjour Errors (Source: Bonjour Service, EventID 100, Level: Error) all the time:

1) Task Scheduling Error: Continuously busy for more than a second
2) Task Scheduling Error: m->NextScheduledEvent XXXX (3 to 5-digit Number)
3) Task Scheduling Error: m->NextScheduledSPRetry XXXX (same Number)

All in all about 130 entries every day...

Cheers
