Acer display X203H: standby not working

I bought an ACER X203H display for my Mac mini.

I connected it via VGA/VGA2miniDVI.

Every time my Mac OS X is going to sleep the display is showing "cable not connected" instead of going to standby mode.

any hints how to change this?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I'm experiencing the same problem with a macbook connecting with a vga cable (via vga--mini-dvi adapter.

Today, I bought an Acer S243HL .

I got a prompt reply from tech support at Acer saying:

+Dear Marc,+

+Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced.+

+I understand that the monitor displays "cable not connected", when the Macintosh goes to sleep mode.+

+As per our record your system is in warranty, but not registered.+

+Marc, after reviewing your mail I understand that the monitor has no hardware issue. In order to configure the display setting, please contact your computer manufacture.+

+I hope that you find this response informative.+

..hmm... I've written them back to say that their response is umm.. not informative.

I guess I'll return it if I can't resolve this. My other lcd monitor slept fine using the same cable/adapter/computer.

Dominik,

I'm happy to report that switching from a VGA to DVI connection solved the issue for me. So, what I have now is an +Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter+ connected to a +Startech HDMI to DVI cable+. (Yup, HDMI, because my ACER S243HL display has only VGA and HDMI ports.)

The display sleeps and wakes appropriately with this arrangement (ie the DPMS signals are being transmitted properly).

_Note on Adapters:_
My first attempt at switching to a digital connection was a +StarTech Mini DVI to HDMI Female Adapter+ (Model: MDVIHDMIMF) bought on Amazon. That failed. I can't say whether it was a defective adapter, or whether there is something inherent to the design of the adapter. (I tried different HDMI cables to rule out the cable.) I got a "No Signal" from the Acer display and my Displays Preference Pane never saw the attached display.

All my best, Marc
..spent embarrassingly too much time troubleshooting this...

Dear Dominik Engbers,

Thank you for contacting Acer UK. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Regarding your enquiry, we understand your concern.

Please try to connect the projector to another computer or a play-station 3 and check the display, if the display is working fine then the projector is good and you have to contact the Mac for further support as there could be compatible issues on the unit.

For any further queries, we request you to e-mail us or contact our technical support helpdesk at 0871 760 1000 (U.K) and 0818 202 210 (Southern Ireland).

Respectfully,

Acer UK
