Bluetooth reception issue

Usually bluetooth works ok; but recently; when using my Sony BT22 headphones on my iphone 4 for simple bluetooth reception; the signal would cut out every time I put the phone in my back pocket. I traced it to a weak signal would I could interrupt when I put my hand over the top of the phone. (I have a speck candyshell case) But the problem did not occur in my car for some reason. I'm stumped. Is it that the headset just had a low battery? A phone prob? A case problem? Interference from a grocery store security system?

Any ideas?

thx

I found a support article ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1664) tried the steps, and confirmed that turning the iPhone off and on again seems to fix the problem.

1) I started an mp3 playing and went to the extremes of my house without the audio breakup.

2) I put the phone in my holster, walked around vigorously; no breakup.

Thanks for the feedback and working solution.

On re-reading the previous post: I didn't do a reset. I turned it off and on. (This iPhone 4 hadn't been off since I bought it about 3 weeks ago.)

But it's a solution.

Perhaps a solution is an iphone update that boosts the signal?

Sony tech support says this for my phones:

Thank you for contacting Sony Support.

I'm sorry that there is distorted sound from the Bluetooth stereo headset. Based on the information you've provided, I suggest that try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. Ensure that this unit is not receiving interference from a wireless LAN, other 2.4 GHz wireless device, or microwave oven.

2. check that the volume of the unit is not set too low.

3. Turn up the volume on the connected device if necessary.

4. Pair this unit and Bluetooth device again.

5. If the issue persist, reset the unit. Pairing information is not deleted by this operation. Insert a small pin, etc, into the hole, and push until you feel a click and check the operation.

Thank you for your time.

I have a similar problem. I just purchased the Plantronics backbeat and when sitting still the quality is great. Once I start moving with the iPhone 4 the signal to the headset is horrible. I did the hand over the top of the phone test as well - same result it cuts out. Seems to me this is an iPhone 4 issue. What recourse do we have??? I tried this with multiple cases and without. Same result.

I am also experiencing the same problem with my Motorola Rokr S305 headset. With the iPhone sitting on a desk, I have line-of-site reception out to about 12 feet. When I am walking, even putting the iPhone in a lapel pocket of a lightweight jacket causes the signal to degrade. If I am carrying the iPhone in my hand, reception is good when held against my chest, but when my arm is extended down to my side, reception is spotty. It appears anything (other than my case) that gets between the iPhone and the headset is blocking the signal.

How many others? Yes; the reception was completely unacceptable. Strange problem; because when I covered the top of the phone while I was in my car; it _didn't cut out; whereas when I was inside the store shopping; it did cut out?? It even cut out when walking down the street; the minute I put the phone in my back pocket. ?? And I had no metal items. I just hope its a correctable software issue.

I'm having problems since moving to an iPhone 4, using a Motorola S9-HD.
I previously use an iPhone 3G with no issues.

1) Range: I get about half the range as before. I like to leave my iPhone docked as I move around the house or my office. Now I can't go a practical distance away from the phone before reception is broken.

2) Breakup of the audio while moving: I listen to audio on my built-in iPod app while walking around. The audio will break up if the iPhone is in my belt holster. I have to hold it in my hand to get steady audio. I've disconnected from the headset to show that the audio doesn't break up if it's on the iPhone's speaker. But that's not at all a workaround.

Is there a Bluetooth signal strength app? I'll search the App Store.

I had been wondering myself if the gyro created software interrupts in the device, so I tried turning off location services, etc.

But that wouldn't have explained the loss of "reach" when I leave the phone and walk away; getting a low beep (Plantronics PLT 510, my other headset) before getting very far.

At least we have solutions.
I still wouldn't mind though finding a utility for signal strength monitoring. I get complaints from folks of break-up when using my PLT-510 (even with the iPhone 3G); not so for the Motorola S9-HD.

ttyl.
