Transfer files without the cable?

For some sorts of files, you can use DropBox. Also, some apps support upload via WiFi (e.g. GoodReader). But there are some things that you need iTunes for (music, for example, or movies from the iTunes store).

Another app fro transferring pictures and photos is an app called Transfer.
Transfers via a link between web browser and iPad over wifi.
I use this. Works flawlessly.
No iTunes or iPhoto.

Dropbox also integrates nicely into the Finder. You get another directory on your computer to copy files to/from, so you don't need to visit their site. Of course, it does copy the files over to their servers in the background. So if you don't want your files on their servers, this is not an option.

Danielle, take a look at iFiles in the app store. I think it's exactly what you want.
With iFiles, you can drag and drop files to/from your iPad to your Mac or PC very easily.
No need for online acocunts.
