iTunes download on a vista PC keeps getting progressively longer and never

A co worker (PC with Vista on a laptop) asked me today why just on his lap top the I tunes download starts out saying 1 minute then 5 minutes then 45 minutes ect... The time keeps getting longer but it won't download. He says he tried several times states he shut off anti virus and pop up blocking software. Any ideas?
