Jan 21, 2013 12:53 PM in response to anneravenby Richardl59,The only thing that worked for me was using www.i-funbox.com
It doesn't copy the saved file name but at least you get your voice memo.
Frustrating that Apple doen't have this figured out.

Jan 22, 2013 6:28 AM in response to rhodel68by rhodel68,Yeah the work around is no fun, but it works if you can follow directions for 95% of users.
Earlier I presented this workaround to get VMs into iTunes: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20228863#20228863
I will make it simplier to understand:
1) create VM on device using the voice memo app...name it if desired.
2) Synch device to iTunes (The VM will be transferred to your PC if you synch with the corrrect settings).
3) Find new VM in iTunes on PC under "Music" on the playlist "Voice Memos" -- note this is AAC version and will be unavailabe as is in the Music app on your device. This is where the AAC version for the VM app saves the file.
4) Right click on each VM and choose "Create MP3 Version" (it will convert the file).
5) Navigate in iTunes "Albums" (or Songs, Artists, etc) within the "Music" option. Look for an album called "Voice Memos", click on it once -- you should see 2 versions of each VM that you converted to MP3 (the MP3 and AAC duplicate version).
6) Right click on each VM and choose "Get Info". Look at the summary tab to determine if the kind of file is MP3 (MPEG) or AAC. Delete the AAC duplicate VM (to the recycle bin). Rename the MP3 file if you desire.
7) Create a new playlist (the old playlist will not be available for MP3 files). In iTunes 11.0 this can be done by clicking on the plus sign at the very bottom left of iTunes and choosing "New Playlist", click done.
8) Go back to Albums, Songs or Artists folder (multiple ways to do this) and find the MP3 VM that you converted. Right click on it and choose add to playlist (choosing the new one you created for VMs).
9) Finally synch your device with iTunes to receive the VM. If you don't synch your entire iTunes with your device (iphone, ipad), you will need to find your device in iTunes and manually select the new playlist that you created in iTunes and re-synch to your device. Find it now under playlists in the Music app on your device.
I've tried this muliple times and it works. Yeah it's a burden work around, but it WORKS..if you can follow these directions.
Good luck

Jan 22, 2013 5:22 PM in response to rhodel68by bjprc,I have suggested the same approach long long time ago, and I still use it. The problem is your step 2) simply does not work. There is no "correct" way to synch as most people explain. Maybe you are lucky, unlike all of us. In the past I had a funny way (also posted earlier) where the trick is to tell iTunes NOT to synch VM and then... it does synch them and they pop up in iTunes as VM (there goes logic). That trick still more or less works but I haven't figured out a strict and reliable step by step approach – you need to change between synch and do not synch VM. Messy it is. I also delete the complete list and folders with VM (created by iTunes), once I converted the VM into MP3, to later restart with a "clean" list. It is weird. I have a 30 min VM that iTunes detects in my iPhone (when connected) and I can listen to it. But it is nowhere to be found in the iPhone and I can't save it in iTunes. Talking about a mess Apple fails to solve despite all of us complaining.

Jan 26, 2013 4:34 PM in response to Merkelby Athelas loraiel Croatia,Im being tortured by these problems. I have dozens of lectures in memos, and I cant sync them.
I tried all of the things, nothing works. I can use iexplorer to move them out, but I can't import them into itunes - they dont want to import m4a files.
This is ****** apple, !!!!
-
Jan 26, 2013 5:45 PM in response to Lukasriby Athelas loraiel Croatia,I think I found the reason why.
in longer files, or during phone calls while recording, voice recording app messes up something in file structure of Recordings folder (or whatever it is named on your iphone).
Afterwards, itunes skips all the voice memos in that folder that were created before. New ones are copied.
Only solution if the error is severe is to copy manualy with iexplorer or similar, and delete folder, restart iphone to recreate that folder on iphone, and start with new memos.
copied memoes can be transfered from itunes to iphone later during syncing and should work.
Apple needs to check it out. ****, Im volunteering to give all my memoes for analysis.
AL.

Feb 5, 2013 4:30 AM in response to Ruchelaby UC524,Thanks for the tip Ruchela. I tried your method and it worked! I have dealing with this issue for a while. My long voice memos would appear on my iphone, but would not sync with itunes. Even the people at the Genius bar at Apple could not figure it out and told me to restore my phone which I did not do. So thanks again.

Feb 7, 2013 6:55 PM in response to rhodel68by Cora123,Hello,
I've seen some people mention 'right click' and choose "convert to MP3"... I would like to convert mine to MP3 but this is not an option on my list. The only option is "convert to AAC". I am sure I converted some voice memos to MP3 format a few years ago but I am not seeing this as an option now.
I also saw someone mention the "advanced menu" but I don't see this either. Very frustrated by the voice memo issue...
If anyone can help me convert them to MP3s I just want to burn them to a CD and get them off my mac and my phone... thanks!
-
Feb 8, 2013 4:48 PM in response to Cora123by Greenfox,You should be able to burn on CDs if you make them all AAC and make playlist. That's what I did. I don't have that mp3 option either.

Feb 8, 2013 7:48 PM in response to Cora123by MattKinNJ,iTunes--Preferences...-->General-->Import Settings (button)-->Import Using: (drop-down - also, Setting: = quality of the import type chosen)
Whatever is set there is what you have as an option when you right/control click.
In the latest iTunes, I can right-click on any music file and have many options, but one is "Create <format> version" where <format> = what was chosen above.

Thanks for the many hints I found here. My problem was similar: voice memos that showed up on the iPhone did not appear in iTunes (Mac OS, latest iTunes.) After hours of frustration, and the mention of MP encoding above, it occurred to me that I had recently reset
iTunes--Preferences...-->General-->Import Settings (button)-->Import Using:
to "Mp3" (in a vain attempt to use iTunes to convert MIDI files to MP3 - another big waste of time, ultimately unsuccessful.)
I am not certain if this setting and the Voice Memo problem are related. However when I
--reset Import Using to "Apple lossless encoder"
--chose the iPhone Voice Memos folder in iTunes, and
--selected the Sync button lower right on that screen...
...my voice memos magically reappeared.
Why in the 21st century we are forced to use the obtuse, inefficient, buggy, extremely badly designed usability nightmare known as iTunes for simple file transfer between devices is hard to understand. Even harder to understand is the fact that Apple continues to enjoy a reputation for well-designed software. That may have been true back in the day when their competition was Windows 5. That people who should know better continue to gush about Apple software usability today is just pathetic.

Feb 11, 2013 10:09 PM in response to donjozby FeelMyBass,Had this problem as well on iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1), iTunes 11.0.1
I read this workaround on another thread & it worked for me:
- Disconnect your phone from iTunes
- In your phone, go to voice memos app
- Select the voice memo you want to transfer
- Assign a category by clicking the grey arrow in the voice memo info screen
- Click Trim Memo
- Don't trim anything, just click Trim Voice Memo in the trim window
- Repeat steps 2-6 for each memo you want to transfer
- Sync with iTunes, and the memos should show up now.
