Nov 25, 2011 10:14 PM in response to jadore1by bjprc,I work on MAC so can't say anything on PC issues. I continue to use my above tricks every day as I have to save Memos every day. As said, I am myself not clear why and how the trick works. What I failed to mention is you need to quit and restart iTunes in between the process. After cleaning out everything in iTunes related to the Memos, click the box to "include Memos". Then sync. No memos downloaded. Unclick the box. Quit iTunes. Relaunch. With the box UNCHECKED sync again. The memos are downloaded. I know, does not make any sense but I got 14 Memos downloaded this way! (BTW: I have all the latest software installed both for MAC and for iPhone4

Nov 29, 2011 8:32 AM in response to gorbunokby JohnTitor,Same problem here on an iPhone4 with iOS 5.
Come on Apple, please explain why people have been encountering this problem for months. Why bother shipping the phones with a prominent 'Voice Memo Recorder" app installed on the home screen, if there is no convenient way to transfer your voice memos off the phone? (excluding the "email yourself the memo" laughable solution.)

Nov 29, 2011 8:46 AM in response to JohnTitorby JohnTitor,UPDATE:
I have solved this problem, (as someone else did further up this thread) by using Macroplant Phonedisk, which basically allows you to browse your iPhone as a regular list of folders like with any other normal non-Apple device, and something which iTunes is apparently designed to prevent you from doing.
The missing memos are in a folder called "Recordings" which Apple don't want you, the user, to see.
This message will no doubt be mysteriously deleted soon.

Nov 29, 2011 3:03 PM in response to anneravenby rikacary,I encountered this problem for the first time today, after successful syncing of voice memos for the past two years. I tried several of these solutions; nothing worked for me except emailing myself the files.
Then I looked in the iTunes Music folder on my Mac. All the apparently missing voice memos were in the Voice Memos subfolder.
So the problem wasn't that they weren't being uploaded to the Mac; the problem was that they weren't being added to the Voice Memos playlist. There's an easy workaround for that: in iTunes, choose "File/Add to Library" and select the Voice Memos subfolder.
Another response up above reported the same thing; it may not solve the problem for everybody, but it's definitely worth checking.

Nov 29, 2011 4:47 PM in response to anneravenby Mac-Win Harmony,For kicks; from within iTunes, see if your memo's show up in the Music folder under your device. That's what happen to me.

Nov 29, 2011 5:34 PM in response to anneravenby Mac-Win Harmony,In the old (logical) way, you had Memo’s in a MEMO Folder and the Music was by itself in iTunes. Now they have Memo’s in a Playlist and mixed in with your music in iTunes for only God knows why and no accessible MEMO Folder. Even under iTunes you can't 'Copy' or 'Save' them off to a folder on the hard drive. What a screwed-up thing, who's big idea was that. Fire them!
By the way; tried the advice to 'Un-sync restart Re-sync, I get new memo's but no older memo's appear. Really screwed...
Jobs hasn’t checked-out that long ago and the company is already going down the toilet.
See what other gifts iOS5 / iTunes 10.5 has given us.

Nov 29, 2011 11:22 PM in response to Mac-Win Harmonyby bjprc,I explained in earlier posting how to solve it. Never found any folder called recording (did a complete search in the MAC - let us know where it is hiding, thanks). iTunes does create a folder Voice Memos but as said, every time I have to make sure I trash it, along with any other Voice Memo that might be sitting in iTunes. The Memos I downloaded I change name and type. Always do a restart of iTunes and to download.... uncheck the box in the iPhone windows within iTunes. THEN it downloads and re-creates a new folder.
Always good to check everything is "clean" opening under documents / music /iTunes and check there too.
I agree it is silly Apple did not fix this.
But I did NOT want to use any other app or gimmick to solve it. There are indeed (paying) apps that allow you to treat the iphone as a hard disk and move around things. Why do we need it when iTunes is supposed to do the job?

Agreed; iPhone/iPod can (and did) have this ability...
Just need to get it back.

Dec 4, 2011 3:31 PM in response to anneravenby Mac-Win Harmony,I did find a ‘Voice Memo’ folder within the default iTunes Media folder (PC), which contains the memo recordings in m4a format. "But' it is still not allowing older recordings to sync out of the iPod to be retrieved there.

Dec 4, 2011 4:40 PM in response to Mac-Win Harmonyby bjprc,OK... Now I understand. Same in MAC. Normally when you delete the same folder within iTunes, that one should also go away. If not, quit iTunes and dump that folder. As said, the best way is to completely clean up iTunes of any Voice Memo and folder and then perform the approach I explained. Safe your memos in another new playlist after removing the stamp of voice memo of each of them.

Dec 8, 2011 9:26 AM in response to anneravenby ipod panda,Try this: Change the LABEL of your voice memo from NONE to MEETING, then connect your ipod touch to your PC. Itunes will sync the voice memos.

Dec 8, 2011 9:18 PM in response to bjprcby Love4All,Awesome help. Weird as to how to do it? Yes. But it worked. I had a super important recording of more than an hour in length and could not get it to sync. I unchecked the sync voice memos box, closed iTunes and then reopened it. Hooked up my iphone 4S with Lion on my laptop and voila! it synced it right away.
So Apple: I looked at emails a year old saying they had this problem. where are you?
Thanks for the help pjprc

Dec 9, 2011 4:23 AM in response to Love4Allby Gibbonio,Absolutely Pathetic!
I mean - Ive just spent the last 2 hours searching the internet for an answer to the problem everyone seems to be asking regarding voice memos not showing up (on the iphone - in itunes) even though you can see them clearly in itunes on your pc or (in my case) imac.
The solution for me - thank you bjprc - was to go to the recordings under the Voice Memos (album, if you like) in the Music library of itunes and right click > get info > then change the Media Kind field under the OPtions tab to MUSIC, instead of Voice memo.
And Voila! if i then drag that to the playlists, its now showing on my iphone (because itunes lists it as MUSIC instead of Voice Memo.
Why Pathetic?
BECAUSE I'VE SPENT £1500 ON AN IMAC, £550 ON AN IPAD 2 AND OVER £2000 OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS ON IPHONES!!!!!!! APPLE IS NOW RICHER THAN GOD AND STILL NO REPLY ON EITHER THIS FORUM OR ANYWHERE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ECHO THE VOICES OF THE ABOVE - WHERE ARE YOU??????

Dec 16, 2011 10:56 AM in response to anneravenby mollygenev,Steps to getting voice memos onto Itunes:
1) update Itunes, they have fixed this problem with the latest version.
2)check the box under "music" in the Ipod/Iphone settings that says "include voice memos"
**close Itunes**
3)Restart the computer for the itunes update to kick in.
**open Itunes**
4) plug in device and watch how itunes creates a "voice memos" play list and uploads all your lovley memos...
Good luck!
