Unable to download Silverlight

Please excuse me if this question has already been answered on this forum. I had a look but was unable to find a solution posted.

I would like to watch SkyPlayer on my Mac and I am being told that I have to download Silverlight 4.0
When I try to download from the Apple site I get sent to a Microsoft Silverlight page that says the following: One moment, please, while the current Silverlight installation status is determined...
The following address appears in the address bar: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx?reason= unsupportedbrowser (note 'unsupported browser)
I am currently running Mac OSX 10.6.4 and Safari 5.0.2

I have tried to fully uninstall the existing version of Silverlight, but this did not help.

I would really appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction or suggest an alternative way to access Sky on my Mac

Welcome to the forums!

So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:

Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again.

Most unlikely:

Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 and 10.6:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.

As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
