missed call notification for iPhone 4: how to?

I am looking for the application which can notify me about missing
calls or received SMS when the screen of the phone is locked. It seems that it is not so easy to find one at the appstore! Could
anyone point me to app which can do this? Thanks in advance!

No such 3rd party app exists and there will be no 3rd party app that provides for this. 3rd party apps do not have access to private iPhone API's and such an app would require access to private iPhone API's.

When you receive an SMS/MMS when the iPhone is locked, a message will appear on the screen with the person's name that sent the message and a message preview of the message if this is selected. There is also a repeat alert option for a received message if a received message is ignored.

Too bad. Many phones, even the cheapest ones, have the LED light which blinks if there is a missed call or SMS/MMS received. It's a pity that Apple has overlooked such simple and convenient feature and didn't provide a decent substitute for it in the iPhone OS.

I don't think Apple is trying to replicate "the cheapest ones".

You cannot see or hear this warning until you unlock the phone and switch the display power on. You should regularly unlock and check the phone screen to find that you have been called or sent with the message. Other phones notify you about this event even when the phone is locked and the display is off. Of course, when you unlock the pnone they also provide you with caller info.

Then your iPhone works differently from mine. I can see the >>warning without unlocking the screen, simply by pressing the >>Home button. I only need to unlock if I want to respond to the >>call/message.

My works in the same way. And now could you tell me, please, how can I know that I've got an SMS or missed the phone call WITHOUT pressing this button? Do you find it convenient to press
this button regularly? Don't you think that it would be better to have some other way to notify me about this event?

There are many more idiots that post here that don't do any research whatsoever nor handle an iPhone in person or ask any questions before purchasing one than there are those that "are worshiping Apple as a god and teasure their iPhones as sacred items..." They ASSume things and when they don't hear what they want to hear or when someone doesn't agree with them, they resort to making such statements. I for one don't purchase any device or product that doesn't meet my needs and wants especially a very important need or want.

Why wait until next time? The demand for the iPhone 4 remains very high. Sell your iPhone 4 to someone else now and purchase a device that provides your most important need or want. There is no point in keeping a device that doesn't. The iPhone is not designed or intended for everyone.

Excuse me for apparently misunderstanding — you had originally said you couldn't see that you had a missed message unless you unlocked your screen.

As for whether or not it's convenient to press the button, I'm guessing that I don't have the same need for immediate information as you have; I prefer not to be interrupted during meetings and so on. I would rather check at my own convenience, so it's not a problem for me.

No one phone is ever going to fit the needs of everyone. What is important for one person may be trivial for another. As Allan Sampson suggested, perhaps another type of phone would be better suited to what you need or want. Just because the iPhone does fit the needs of many people here doesn't mean we "worship" the company — just that we're happy with our choice. If you're not happy with yours, you need to switch. Good luck.

Hi!

iPhone notifications for incoming phone calls seem to be passive. It doesn't do what message notification does, which is repeat nag until you throw the phone across the room.

On Friday I did not notice, until very late in the day, that a call had come in at around 10 am. Yipe.

I wasn't near the phone when the call came in, but I was sitting next to the phone all day. Instead of "YOU HAD A PHONE CALL AT 10:25 AM AND THERE'S A MESSAGE WAITING FOR YOU" thing appearing on screen, occasionally waking up the display and buzzing, the phone sat on my desk inert for 10 hours.

When I finally looked, there was a long list of things on my screen that appeared for .10 sec as I charged through to get to wherever I was going, and didn't get a good look at what it all was.

The Nag should happen like messages, either I ack the nag or it continues to nag.

I hope this is addressed in the iOS 4.2 update.
