ATV 2 remote controls my macbook when I want it to only control the ATV 2

Just got the apple tv 2 last night set it up, turned on the mac and set up home sharing then downloaded the remote app to the ipad and used that exclusivly. Then wanted to try the remote that came with the atv 2 and was pressing buttons such as the up and down arrow and menu button and my mac book that was on and next to me was turning the volume up and down as I pressed the up and down buttons on the remote and when pressing the menu button on the remote it opens up front row on the mac!!! Thats kind of dumb to me, you have to have the mac on to use home sharing to stream to your apple tv but cant use the remote without it also controlling the mac?? Anyone else had this issue and or solution I would greatly appreciate it!
