When I hit play on any Netflix the "spinning wheel of death" goes for about 10-15 seconds, then a message that says "Sorry we could not reach the Netflix service . . . " I have unplugged and tried again etc, no luck. Anyone know what the deal is?
Just adding one mo voice to this list. Same problem, network and billing is fine, works on all my other devices - laptop, iMac, iPad. Getting this error from the atv though. Has anyone contacted apple support yet to report the issue directly to them?
I have U-verse. I cannot see Netflix streaming on my home wifi. Using VPN or 3G mobile network works fine, so I suspect this is an AT&T U-verse issue. Nome of my other devices that are on my home wifi work.
UPDATE: from netflix, they say their servers are getting hammered with all the new apple tv and other devices trying to stream on a friday night, I dunno about that, anybody else get an update?
I am on U-Verse as well, but I watched a movie on my laptop yesterday with no issue. No changes made to the gateway. Watched a movie on my iPad last Friday with same settings. Also, if my PS3 is running on the same wireless network, hard to see how the gateway would be the issue--but definitely possible...
Same events here. Obviously all of our Apple TV's haven't died at the same time. Netflix must have changed something to limit the number of Apple TV streams that can occur at one time. That's the only explanation since there haven't been any update to the Apple TV firmware. About to go and cancel my Netflix subscription...Apple are you listening? Get in the unlimited rental game!!
I appreciate everyone's weighing in, thus helping me establish that my problem isn't unique. I'm on an iPhone 4 and have used the Netflix app to stream content since the day it was released, with nary a hiccup. Only today have I been receiving a "Sorry, we could not reach the Netflix service. Please try again later..." error message.
As a test, I subsequentIy tried streaming content from other apps such as PBS, Pandora, and MLB At Bat video feed: All work just fine. So, the problem isn't with my hardware, nor do I think it's with anything Apple-related. Presuming it's a temporary Netflix glitch, I'll just shrug, try again tomorrow, and cut Netflix some slack for providing an otherwise high-quality, reliable service.
Got this from another thread (actually a few of them) and can confirm that it works. ATV connects to Netflix now without a problem. Looks like the DNS issue is definitely it, as the default DNS server address coming from U-Verse is not resolving properly.
"I spoke to Netflix support and they helped me fix this issue.
Solution: Switch from your automatic DNS settings to Google's DNS server. General->Network->Configure TCP/IP->Manual and pick 008.008.008.008.
Now, I was stumped a bit since I have an XBox 360 on the same network with no issues. The support guy said that Apple TV connects to their licensing servers a bit differently so this should fix the issue. "
