External HArd Drive not recognized by MAcBook Air

Hi,

I bought an external hard drive(from LaCie) few months ago and plugged it once to my Macbook Air. I tried to plug it again last month and my MacBook Air didn't recognize it. I also tried to plug it in a PC and not recognized as well.

I've been told to check in the disk utility folder and to format (erase) my hard drive in order to have it running again, but even in the disk utility, hard drive is not recognized.

If anyone had the same problem before, i'd be gratefull of some help.

what lacie hard drive did you buy?
some hard drives require power supplies. if your hard drive requires one make sure it's firmly connect at both ends. If you haven't done so try another outlet. Also some lacie hard drives have a 3 mode switch on the back. make sure it's set to on, if your hard drive has a switch.
Some of the lacies hard drives have a blue button on the front. try another cable. see if the hard drive shows up as a USB device.

i have the same problem and i really need help. PLEASE.
my macbook is not recognizing my 1tb Lacie external HD.
It just stopped working out of the blue.

How do i at least get the information off it its really important.

OH YEAH MY HD IS NOT RECOGNIZING IN THE DISK UTILITY I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

With the Lacie external drive disconnected from your Mac, run Console (you can search for it using Spotlight). While in Console, click on "All Messages". Take note of the last Console message entry in the main Console window. Next, connect your Lacie drive. Does the act the connecting the Lacie drive generate any Console messages?

Hey...

I had the same problem but with a Philips external hard drive. I just opened Console and All Messages but switching on the external drive does not create any messages. The drive makes the usual start up noise (which sounds healthy - no clicking or difference in sound from the past) but it is just never recognised.

i have the same problem too. i have an external hard drive but it cannot be recognized by macbook air. however, it can be recognized by other macs like macbook pro, mac mini. why is that so? in my macbook air, i even installed the driver of the hard drive, but then again, it cannot be recognized. please help. what will i do?

I'm having the same problem, I clicked on Console and found that it is connecting, however I can't access anything--what do I do now?
