Mobile Data network

Hi guys

Just got an Iphone 4 (had a 3gs before) now on vodafone

I had a problem with no 3G connection and called vodafone for support and they keep asking me to go to settings>general>network>cellular data network.

Now i only have mobile data network

can any one explain why i seem to have the works mobile data network and not cellular data network.

I called apple support and was told its because im on the latest firmware????

but i am ont he same firmware as the other iphone 4 on the contract and that says cellular

any ideas??

Not sure what difference the label or name makes for this. It is used for the same thing.

It says mobile data network and not cellular because it knows you are in the UK connected to a UK network and we call them mobile phones not cell phones. How much more obvious does it need to be?

if its because im in the UK

why are vodafone telling me to select celluler data

and why do i have another iphone 4 (in the uk lol) which is saying celluler?

works just the same just interested why its differnt as vodafone last time i called made me do a restore beacuse they claimed something was wrong as it should say celluler

OK - for the record my phone says mobile data not cellular

Do you have any signal or just stating you don't see the "3G" symbol? Where in the UK are you using the iPhone 4? Does Vodafone offer 3G coverage in the area you are experiencing the issue? What symbol do you see on the top left display? Also contact Vodafone to confirm if your area supports EDGE.

i dont have a reception problem not even a problem at all. everything is working fine. Just when i call for support every 1 keeps telling me to go into cellular data network and mine only says mobile data network and it seems to be the only 1 i can find which says it and i was wondering why it says this

I've seen this before. Whether it says mobile or cellular comes from the carrier file installed on your phone, which of course comes from Vodaphone. They both mean the same thing. Connect your phone to itunes, hit the "Check for Update" button, see if a new carrier file is available. If not, don't worry about it, as there is nothing you can do.

Thanks for that it explains it well as i did put an BT sim card in 1st (technically its still vodafone) but i dare say this is why it says it.

Mobil Data Network :-

Am using Version 4.3.5,and am constantly prompted to upload new mobile carrier data

When I do so I lose the Mobie Data Network tab and to regain it I have to restore my phone, therefore I avoid updating the carrier settings - Not sure what else I can or should be doing ?

Because they're reading off of a script they were handed that probably originated with Apple in the US. Don't be tricked into thinking most support people have a clue about whatever device you're using. Most of them are lucky to be able to read the multisylable words on the script.
