Conditionally change cell color in Numbers '09

How can the background color of a cell be changed conditionally, based on the resulting number from a formula in the same cell?

MacBook Pro Aluminum 2010, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

You may not believe it, but the feature you need is called Conditional Format. See page 79 of the Numbers User Guide PDF for instructions. You will find the controls in the Cells Inspector.
