Newbie needs to know how to save a simple picture

Sounds pretty simple, but coming from PS and a PC, you'd think that there'd be a "save" or "save as" to simply do that? I exported a pic from an untitled project in Aperture to an external hard drive then later deleted the untitled project and the new version was gone from the external hard drive. I just want to simply know how to save a pic after I've tweaked it so that it will stay until I delete it from that place where I saved it. If you think I'm a little short, well try searching the manual for the word "save" and nowhere does it tell you...hmm. Am I being punked or on Candid Camera?

no need to save
just do your work and the database is updated
your master is never touched

when you want your image out of Aperture just export the version
Aperture will then apply the corrections to the master then export the version to your HDD

You really need to look at the Aperture tutorials.

Coming from Photoshop mean you're coming from an entirely different type of application. YOur workflow makes no sense.

Why would you delete the project?

My problem is different. I can't export pictures from aperture or iphoto to external hard drive od dvd and transfer to a pc; which is what I want to do. The dvd can't be read by my PC. The external hard drive....the aperture program says "null" and won't let the transfer to that device occur! HELP!!!!!

Can you export to the desktop? How are you trying to do this?

File -> Export -> versions will get you to the export presets.

Yes I can and have exported to desktop and then tried to export from there to DVD of external hard drive with the same unsatisfactory results.

The export/versions can only occur on a single photo not a library or event folder. I am using the preset JPG original size. Still can't get to readable dvd or external harddrive from either aperture or desktop

I'm perplexed as I believe i did this successfully before.

If you can export to the desktop and it works, well that's Aperture off the hook. Your issues are then with this External Drive (What format is it?) and the DVD - how are you making it?

Yes, you can export entire Projects at a time - you just need to select the entire project.

When I ask it to export to the external drive which mac recognizes and lists as a source to export to, I click export and it says it can't using the expression "null"

DVD same thing follow mac protocol and copy...put in pc; pc recognizes the folder names but inside the folder the date is all gobblygook....unreadable as a image.

The drive is a "My Passport", don't know the format but as I said mac recognizes it and it shows on the desktop as does it's software entitled "WD SmartWare".
