I have been using a 1st generation Apple TV with my Mac via Itunes for about 18 months with no problem. Today however Apple TV is not showing in my devices on Itunes? I have the latest software downloaded on both Itunes & Apple TV and i have checked all the settings on my Apple TV and the wireless internet is set up & working and showing good signal strength.
Does anyone know what i need to do to get Itunes to recgonise my Apple TV again? In the prefernces on Itunes it does not even show Apple TV on the devices? I have not deleted it but today it was not showing!
No one's come up with an explanation/solution yet. Somehow iTunes is not communicating to AppleTV through the router. Netflix and everything else works fine. Under computers on the AppleTV screen, nothing shows up. I've logged in to iTunes on my iMac and on AppleTV but no iTunes library.....
Also experiencing same issue suddenly. I have tried unplugging and "rebooting" the ATV but to no avail. On the Prferences page, the option "Look for AppleTVs" is gone! ....was there last week!?!?!
just doing a bit more reading in this forum - seems there is a "bug" and interestingly, it seems a lot of posts about this problem in last few days...?? Will Apple FIX THIS?? Otherwise, I am totally screwed...??? and..we have a first generation Apple TV.
..continuing to do reading and I am getting really frustrated Apple!! I have probably 20 seasons of kids' shows and another 20 kid movies that I have paid for and rely on to be available when I want them. I do this instead of buying DVDs!!...and now, b/c of some bug, I cannot synch my ATV and b/c I have tried to fix the problem by unplugging it, my ATV is empty - no content - and no way of putting content on it!?!?!? ARGH!!!
I have the same problem here and have been posting on this for 2 weeks now, but non of the advise helps. I think it has something to do with iTunes10. I'm on my wifes Acer laptop now running iTunes 9.0.2.25 and it sees my ATV1 just fine. The only problem is that it's a loan CPU and will be going in 2 weeks.
Hi Chenks - not sure "where" to post - I did a search for my problem and then just replied to posts that already existed... So, I appreciate your assistance regardless of where the post is... I have tested my network connection and it is fine. The firewall problem that you mention - how do I check that?
There seems to be a lot of individuals with this frustrating problem and we are trying to find help. I hit on the Gen1 discussion and it took me here. So we appreciate the help anyone can give. Telling us we are in the wrong forum is not helping. I am experiencing the same issues everyone mentioned and would like some help!! I am hoping Apple hasn't abandoned us, hoping we will buy the Gen2 system. Do we all need to call Apple??
Ok so after reading many of the problems, it was clear to me that the problem is with Itunes 10. I am not a tech person but it appears Apple may have configured 10 to fit the ATV2 and inadvertently left us out. So I decided to reinstall version 9 until they FIX THE PROBLEM!!! I unintalled Itunes 10 and went to oldapps.com and installed the last version 9. initially Itunes wouldn't open because it said "Itunes library.itl file was created with a newer version. This was referring to my Itunes library I moved the file to the desktop then the file open. Low and behold when I went back into edit, then preferences the option to look for Appletv was there again. I am not sure, but i'm assuming playlists may be erased, but i'm fine with that. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it for me until they fix the problem!!I have too many files not to be able to access them on my apple TV. After researching this is the best solution i can find.
