10.6 + Zebra LP 2844 - adding a printer not working

Have a laptop running Mac OS X 10.6.4.

Tried adding a Zebra LP2844 label printer, connected via a USB to Centronics cable to connect to the LP2844 printer.

1. The computer doesn't recognise the printer. Shows up as USB2.0-Print
2. I manually choose Zebra EPL2 Label Printer driver.
3. Shows a message below "The selected printer software isn't from the manufacturer and may not let you use all the features of your printer."
4. I still click "Add"

Result: Printer does not add to the Printer list in Print & Fax.

I don't know what else to do to add this printer to the Print Queue. Any recommendations?

MacBook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Some adapter cables do not work with some printers. You can try the alternative communications software usbtb http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/. That may be able to detect what printer you are using.

Alternatively, you might have to try a different parallel to USB adapter.
