Q: store photos on an external hard drive?

i don't want to take up valuble space on my computer's hard drive with the zillion photos i have. i want the iphoto library to live on an external hard drive. i moved the folder there but it was copied there and still exists on the computer as well. what's the best way to do this?

ibook G3, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Launch iPhoto and select Help >iPhoto Help. Search on the phrase "switching between photo libraries" and read the instructions there. While iPhoto Help is open, quit iPhoto and perform the instructions. Once iPhoto has been "introduced" to your external library and everything appears to be in order, you can drag the old original iPhoto Library from the Pictures folder to the trash.
