The little ARCTIC Breeze External USB Cooling Fan from electron.com has been discontinued and is no longer available. This was the one on a stand that one could use to blow against the back of an iMac. Does anyone know of an alternative? Thanks.
20" alum iMac , 2.4 GHz, 2 GB; Parallels and XP Home,
Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Hi,
I use an ordinary desktop fan, it was stated that by blowing cool air onto the Mac it was not necessarily advantageous, but once again if it helps keep your Temps down or within the guidelines you feel are acceptable I cannot see any minuses.
I Googled -> USB Fans -> lots of results.........L

I just buy the cheap ($10) 6" 120Volt/AC clip on fans and mount them on a nearby bracket on the wall behind the computer. If you lubricate them once in a while, they'll run for a long time. Just place a few drops of oil on the back and front of the shaft. No need to take them apart completely. Also keep the fan blades and the back and front guards clean and clear of dust.
With the new aluminum iMacs, this can be pretty effective at dissipating the case heat for extra cooling at the back. It wouldn't do much for the plastic case on the G5 iMacs, though.
