Has anyone had any luck getting Logic 9.1.2 to recognize TouchOSC on the iPhone. Logic can see my iphone and it appears that the setup is correct. However, there are no midi messages being received by Logic. What am I missing. Has anyone else gotten this combo to work with the new feature in 9.1.2 without having to use OSCulator?
I have it working on both an iphone and an ipad. Make sure you set the incoming and outgoing ports to different numbers in the Network setup window. I have the Outgoing set to 7000 and the incoming set to 7001. I also let Logic discover the devices automatically. Just go to Logic Pro/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Setup and under "new" select Automatic Installation. I had tried to install them with a scan at first and it didn't work but once I let Logic discover them and install, everything was peachy. Pretty amazing stuff!
Thanks for the tip Steve. Unfortunately I have it configured just as you describe (Logic automatically scanned and installed the iPhone and ports 7000 and 7001) but I'm still not having much success. Oddly, when I switch pages in OSC on the iPhone the channel EQ will open. So it is getting some messages. Unfortunately though, when I put it into Learn mode Logic won't respond to any actions in OSC. I'm stumped.
Did you update your touch osc app on the iphone? When I updated mine a new template called Logic Touch showed up which is the new preset that works in Logic without having to make any assignments manually. I never needed to go into learn mode.
YES! that did it. Thanks for reminding me to update. It just slipped my mind. I'm impressed that even 3rd party FX plugins (ie GuitarRig) can be controlled without any modifications too. Very cool.
with mine i can get the phone to see logic but when i change a parameter on the phone, it wont change in logic. any ideas? i have done the update on both and phone is getting seen by logic.
Thanks for sharing the good news. Got the OSC update last night and have been trying to figure out how to make it work since then! I take it OSCulator needs to be open, right? What does the Control Surface Setup window display the name as when it finds the phone?
Osculator is no longer needed since Logic can now communicate directly with touch OSC. Take a look at my earlier post and make sure everything is setup correctly. The control surface window will display a detailed icon of an iPhone.
I'm able to get it working with the Logic template in TouchOsc but how do I get the other non Logic templates like the Mix 16 to work? It seems like Logic won't see the iphone as a generic controller. I'm not able to get Logic to "learn" faders. Am I missing something or will it only work with the Logic template?
Good question. Here's a link to an announcement about the new version where a discussion thread seems to be taking shape. Might be a better place to catch the ear of the developer http://hexler.net/logically-yours .
Wow, just bought Touch OSC for the iPad.. This is awesome I must say!!! Seriously makes AC-7 Pro look like a toy and makes a decent original effort at being a all original style of controller!!
Logic recognizes touchOSC and asks, if I want to add it as a control surface.
Unfortunately Logic keeps crashing, as soon as I hit the "add" button.
What am I doing wrong?
I found out, that this happens to a couple of other users.
I'm also looking for a way to get other layouts (like Mix 16) to work directly with Logic, but there is no description anywhere for how to do this. Now that TouchOSC (and other OSC apps?) talk directly with Logic, this must be possible, but how ...?
I just noticed that the developer has updated the touchosc-default-layouts zip file on the touchOSC web site. It now has the two Logic layouts (LogicTouch and LogicPad). If you open these in the TouchOSC Editor you will see that the names of each control are named for controls that Logic will understand. For example, in the layout Mix16 on page one the first fader is named "fader1" and the OSC tag below is set to "/1/fader1". If you change the name to "volume" which is what Logic understands then the OSC tag updates to "/1/volume". If you sync this down to your iPhone it should work. I just tested it on my and it works fine. I haven't tried adjusting other controls but you should be able to figure them out by looking at the Logic layouts.
Note: it appears that Logic expects all lower case names for controls (ie. "volume" and not "Volume"). I may be wrong about this but it only worked when I changed it to all lower case letters.
