Keyboard displays wrong characters

Ok this is weird!
I have a Mac Mini with 10.5.8. After last update my keyboard (US) is seen as US but display greek characters. I tried everything: from deleting fonts to resetting the keyboard. I tried different keyboards (i.e. English, Australian, Irish ..) but still cannot get the qwerty keyboard. The keyboard is recognized correctly as 101-102 but still displays greek characters. The "Keyboard viewer" displays greek characters also (in line with the keyboard display). I also tried to switch keyboard...nothing. nada: the greeks characters are displayed.

Ok, now it becomes weirder.
If I use a screen sharing from my iMac, then I can type in western characters correctly. Also the "Keyboard viewer" displays correctly the western characters.

What should I do? Reinstall? Roll back? BTW: the keyboard is on a DIN/USB adapter.
