can't find APPLE TV on my iTunes PREFERENCES

Its a 3 year old bug that they still havent found a solution for, so im afraid you wont find one either.
Google Apple tv not showing in itunes, and youll see what i mean 😉

as you posted this question in the forum for the "new" appletv, it is not supposed to show up in itunes.

So how do you choose what to sync if atv wont show up in itunes?

those instructions are for TV1. do you own the 1st generation (silver) or current generation (small, black) TV ?.

Same issue here. I recently upgraded to a new iMac and iTunes does not see my Apple TV. It does not list Apple TV in the preferences either. I completely uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled, and it did not help. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem and here is what I had to do.
- Make sure that iTunes and Apple TV are on latest software
-

Sorry about not completing my last statement...

- update both itunes and apple tv to latest software
- on the apple tv go to settings, computers, add itunes account

If you dont do this last step it will never show up in itunes...

Whala, now I have the Apple TV tab in the Edit, Preferences...

I am experiencing the same issue and really would love to find an answer.

I have the first Apple TV, it says it is connected to my network, but cannot connect to the internet through the network (???) so I can't update the software. I try to login to iTunes but when I put in my Apple ID and password it says it's wrong....then I go to iTunes and the Apple TV doesn't show up on the left OR in the preferences. I'm totally between a rock and a hard place. I've reset the Apple TV several time and tried every configuration I could think of.

Please, anyone have any new ideas??

It's a miracle--after reading so many posts on here about this issue, I just did a factory restore to my first gen ATV and now it shows up in iTunes, it connected to my network and internet, I got the software updated and it seems perfect.

I have no idea what changed or what happened, but it worked!

Another mystified Apple TV user here. I just bought the newest Black one.

Hooked it up, updated software, signed in to network, no problems whatsoever.

For one moment the new Apple TV icon appeared in the left column of iTunes. Then it vanished.

Everything works re: playing and whatnot, however!?

All software is up to date (Apple TV, iTunes, OSX).

This is a brand new i5 Quad Core iMac too.

Some monkeying around with iTunes Preferences shows NO box to tick to look for Apple TVs.

I then decided to delete the Apple TV showing in my list of Synched Apple TVs, thinking if I added it again, it would show up in the left-hand column of iTunes.

It disappeared, and then so did the Tab for Apple TV! Restarting iTunes, restarting computer, fixing permissions, nothing has returned the Apple TV tab in Permissions.

The thing STILL works though!?!?

What in the **** ... is going on?

Are you using the newest Apple TV? I will try that if that's the case. Pain in the *** thing ....
