There does not seem to be a way to control history deletions...your control is all or nothing. I am not sure what you are saying about deletion timing. My iPad Safari has history stored from the first time I used Safari.
Are you sure it is deleting, or do you have so much storage in use it is forcibly making room? -

Like the wife asking wth you were looking at? Just explain you are not looking at bad stuff and let her use it.
Once she notices the same thing she will relax alot. -

Sometimes there is a week of history, and sometimes it just vanishes the next time you use it. Aggravating. There is NO setting I can find to control it to keep browser history LONGER THAN ONE WEEK. I want to keep history as long as possible for reference and memory recall. I would also like the option to delete individual entries or even complete days if needed (especially after letting others use it). Apple ***** at software customization. This is basic browser user controls IMHO. Support is worthless too. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL UNANSWEREDI like Apple hardware but their software is seriously lacking basic user control, and support is too hard to resolve problems. Steve Jobs only seems to care about gross margins of hardware & app/ad revenue, not the logic and quality of every user's daily software experience. Sad.

This doesn't excuse the poor feature quality and reliability of Apple's own basic software. We are talking about a browser on the iPad. It should be continually improved and somewhat customizable, but Apple and many of their blind fans think the answer is to go somewhere else. Sad response to a valid and even minor complaint. I mean, every other browser on a PC or Mac has this ability. I want better and reasonable control over the friggin browser history of an expensive product that I already paid for. Is that really too much to ask of an iPad? -
Mar 26, 2011 12:51 PM in response to stockboy11by Meg St._Clair,I like Safari. It works well for me. The iPad is not a Mac or PC. Expecting it to be will just leave you frustrated. Suggestions that you get the tool that best meets your needs are hardly a "sad response", merely sound advice.

Please explain to me exactly what is wrong with wanting this universally standard browser feature on an iPad too? My iPhone doesn't have this problem of vanishing browser history? Do you think Apple is above accountability and reasonable usability improvement? -

Are you saying that you wouldn't like the ability to control browser history more on YOUR iPad? Are YOU seeing your history just vanish like I and many others are experiencing? -

I rarely have any reason to look at my browser history so I couldn't tell you whether things get deleted or not. However, you're right, that's not the point. The point is, you have an opinion. But it's only an opinion. There is a venue for expressing that opinion to Apple. Complaining to your fellow users, while cathartic, is probably not terribly useful at effecting change. -

Nothing has ever been addressed specifically or fixed. That is what has me on this forum. I want other iPad owners to see this issue and know they are not alone. Maybe someone will share a fix THEY discovered. Either way, many people want a longer, editable and more reliable browser history on their iPad. Is this really too much to ask for at these prices? I want reasonable reliability and easier support to fix bugs in key apps like Apple's Safari browser. This is probably the most frequently used app on all iPads worldwide!! Is it your job to post here and minimize all valid complaints? Are you compensated by Apple in any way? -

I have never, in any way attempted to minimize your complaint. I have simply pointed out the that your opinion is not universal, that this forum is not the way to get your complaints heard by the only people who can make changes and that you have other options.
You can recognize the Hosts, the paid Apple employees who monitor the forum for compliance with the TOU by their purple apple avatars. Other Apple employees who volunteer their time here are identified by silver apple avatars. -
