Video works on ATV1, but not ATV2. "An error occurrd loading this content"

I bought my apple tv today. My son and I were going to watch movies tonight but I'm getting the same message when I attempt to play a movie I rented from iTunes. An error occurred loading this content. Try again later." Of course the meter is running on two movies I've paid for. Very disappointing.

I too have the same problem. I have a mixture of purchased content (TV Shows) and Ripped content (HD Movies ripped using Handbrake and tagged using MetaX). It all works perfectly well on my 1st Gen AppleTV. However, non of it - even the iTunes purchased content - will work on my 2nd Gen AppleTV. What with this and the Homesharing issues, I am very disappointed.

I can see the movies in my Library, but I get no artwork, and when I attempt to play, I also get the "An error occurred loading this content" message.

I have no idea what is causing this. Does anyone have a fix or any ideas?

I have the same problem. Rebooting the box multiple times ( turning off, then on ) caused it to start working. It is quite finicky and I could not find a predictable pattern. Once a movie plays, it continues to do so, but recent conversions seem to suffer this issue. I am primarily using handbrake for DVD images.

Same problem here - I used Handbrake and tried with Permute also. It's an MKV ripped to an M4V and other movies are working - just not this particular one. Worked fine on ATV1. Very frustrating.

I am surprised more people are not complaining of this. It would be good to know if this a general issue or some boxes suffer from this in which case I would take it in to get it replaced.

I got this same error message today when trying to watch the podcast of Apple's keynote from today. I actually got the same error message when trying to access the keynote under Internet-->Podcasts and when trying to access the podcast I downloaded into iTunes and tried to view under Computer-->My Library-->Podcasts.

Same here. I just tried playing today's Keynote on the new Apple TV from the Podcast section. It gave me the error, so instead I just downloaded it to my iMac and tried to play it on the Apple TV from my iMac and I get the same error. It plays fine on the iMac itself. Very frustrating.

I had the exact same problem.

I've encountered the same problem with today's Apple Keynote. I receive the "error loading this content" when playing the copy downloaded to my MacBook via iTunes or if I try to stream the podcast directly from Apple. This looks like something about the encoding is causing the issue. I've also encountered the same error with the odd Rev3 podcast when trying to play on my ATV2.

I think this will only be resolved with a firmware update, unless somebody has a bright idea 🙂

I'm having the same issue..

Reads my Movie folder and Music folder no problem, but I get the error message when I try to read anything in my TV folder!

Rather annoying!

I tried a test...

My Movies - works
My Music - works
My Podcasts - works
My TV Show - Error

So, I moved an episode from TV into Movies...

Tried to play it via ATV2.. Error!


Makes no sense!


Apple... seriously... are you paying attention to this issue?
