2008 Mac Pro and Apple Cinema Display 27"

Adrian - did you end up getting an adapter and using it? I purchased the Atlona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter (AT-DP200) to connect my 2008 MacbookPro (with GeForce 8600M GT) to the new 27 in. Cinema display, and though it works, it looks a bit fuzzy in terms of resolution. Having read the response here about making sure it is a DUAL link converter, I was going to try to return it for the AT-DP400.
Then I read another thread on here that seemed to indicate that the AT-DP400 would not work at all with the 2008 Macbook Pro.

System requirements:

Mac with Mini DisplayPort connector

Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later

Install a Geforce 120 or a Radeon 5770 or 5870.
Otherwise, use the Atlona DP400:

Because of the high resolution of the 27 inch and 30 inch displays, any DVI adapter must be a "Dual Link" adapter. If you substitute another adapter that is not "Dual Link" your displayable resolutions and picture quality will suffer greatly.

My vote goes to the 5770. Just installed it. It eliminates the need for adapters when using the new 27". Goes for $250 at the local Apple Retail Store. The active Apple adapter plugs run $100 each....

I too have a 2008 Mac Pro and purchased the 27" cinema display with HD 5770 card.
It doesnt work for me. Monitor remains blank.
It also only fits in the 2nd card slot. I therefore took out the old card from slot 1 and plugged the power connector into the 5770.
What am i doing wrong?

I have the 2008 mac pro, just bought the 27" led cinema display. The apple support person recommended the ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics upgrade. In reading other postings it appears some have had problems once installing the upgrade.

I know very little about computers, which is why I wanted the simplicity of the Mac for movie/photos editing, etc. Should I be concerned about the upgrade?

Sorry, I just realized the thread I referenced was talking about the Mac Pro, not the Macbook Pro. Still, I'd be interested to know your experience.

Not pushy enough.
Seating the Mini DisplayPort so that it makes a solid connection take a LOT of force.
