Ipod touch 2nd generation update from 2.2.1 to 3.1 problems

hello,
Sorry for my bad english.

My ipod touch 2nd generation version 2.2.1 won't upgrade to the latest version. When i sync my ipod touch to iTunes and go to check for new version it says that the version 2.2.1 the last version is.
Can anyone please help me?

This link provides the info for going to 3.1 for the 1G (you have to purchase it) and for going to the latest revision(4.1) for 2G and later iPods.

Based on a previous discussion you can only go to the latest revision. Thus, a 2G (and later) can't go to 3.1 no. They have to go to the latest, 4.1.

Go here and download the firmware to your desktop. Then connect to iTunes, hold your Option key down and select the firmware you just downloaded.

I also have the 2nd gen and want to update from 2.2.1 to 3.1.2 to run specific apps. My IMac is running 10.4.11 so I can't (and don't want to) update to ITunes 10. I purchased the update $4.95 but it is not there to download. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.
