iPhone "accidental damage" warranty in *CANADA*

Unfortunately Squaretrade doesn't cover the iPhone in Canada, which makes me incredibly sad...

That said, I purchased my iPhone through Telus at a future shop. They have a warranty, which is fine and all, but its coverage is far from comprehensive and costs a whopping $430 over 3 years! Forget it!! And if I drop it? Nothing! For $430?? I made the mistake of doing that for my other phone, and I'll never, ever do it again.

That said, I'm dying to find any resources in Canada that provide accidental damage coverages for a reasonable price?

I don't mind paying SOMETHING for that piece of mind, even with a small deductible, but I'd like to not be afraid of my phone when I take it out of my pocket! 😉

I'm still planning on investing in an otterbox case once I have a bit more money, and have one now that's decent - but its screen protection leaves me a bit wanting... seeing as it doesn't have any 🙂

I hope someone can point me in the right direction here...

Thanks in advance!

Some credit card companies will double the manufacturers warranty and cover accidental damage if you purchase using that credit card, I.E.-American Express. They don't charge extra for this, its a benefit. So, look online and see if any credit cards you have offer this or perhaps obtain a credit card that offers this & use that to purchase your phone.

While the 2 year Apple Care warranty for the iPhone (cost $79.00 CDN) doesn't cover physical damage, anything outside the warranty cost you replacement value. Example damage your glass it's $29.00 to replace the glass, do more physical damage it's $199.00 to swap the iPhone 4 16 GB for a refurbished iPhone 4 16 GB. This is far cheaper than buying the iPhone at full cost to replace a damaged one. In store warranties from independent dealers are never to the customer advantage unless they offer to refund you the warranty if unused. Digital Communications (authorized dealer for Rogers) refunds the customer the warranty fee 100% if not used by the end of the warranty period. Though this is only useful to a customer if the authorized dealer is still in business when you need to use the warranty (carriers are not liable for in store warranties offered through independent dealers). In the end my recommendation for any Apple customer is to buy Apple's own Apple Care warranty for their products, not from an authorized dealer.

Thanks so much for the info. That makes perfect sense. This would be for a 64 gig model, but I'm guessing the difference isn't insane.

Now - with Applecare, and an iPhone, I would have to purchase the Apple Care within 90 days, which is the extent of the warranty - correct?

I just didn't see anything on their site, and I'm going to try and call them tomorrow to confirm, but if you know off the top of your head, I'd appreciate it!

There is no 64 gig model. If you have a 64 gig device, it isn't an iPhone. Are you sure you don't own an iPod Touch?

Your Apple warranty is one year, with 90 days of free phone in tech support (after that they charge a service fee for over-the-phone tech support). Applecare extends your warranty for an additional one year (so two years total). You must purchase and register your AppleCare plan before your one year default warranty period ends.

Personally, I don't think insurance is worth it, even for a phone as expensive as an iPhone. How many cellular phones have you lost or destroyed to date? And how often do you upgrade, every 2 years or so? The cost of replacement versus risk does not warrant the cost of any insurance premiums I've seen quoted here in the USA. I just take my chances - in the long run, I'm quite certain I will be out far less money then if I had paid for insurance.
