Anonymous or Guest printing from Windows

I have a mini running OS X Server 10.6.4. I have a USB printer connected to it. My wireless Windows XP Pro laptops can print to this printer but have to authenticate first in order to print.

How can I allow this printer to be shared on the network and allow my users to print to it without the need to authenticate?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.

On the SL Server, if you open Server Admin and select the SMB service, under the Settings item there is the Access tab and with this selected you will see the 'Allow Guest Access' setting. Enable this and XP should no longer be prompted to authenticate when you print.

Note that you could also print using LPD instead of SMB. Still in Server Admin, if you select the Print service and then select the Queues tab, under the Protocols section you can enable LPD and even advertise the printer share using Bonjour. Then on the PC you can install [Bonjour for Windows|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999] that will assist the PC with finding and connecting to the LPD queue.
