Viewing MPEG Files

I am a newly converted PC to Mac user and have several files in MPEG format, how can I view these files? Is there a specific software I need to download in order to view them?

If these are industry-standard MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files, you should be able to open and view them with QuickTime Player, which was installed on your computer by the factory. If these are MPEG-2 files (common in many DVD or hard-drive camcorders), you'll need additional software. If you only want to view the files, I'd suggest trying the free VLC Media Player.

Regards.

Dear Mr. Sawyer:

It WORKED!!!! You were so right!

I was able to see my wedding film. My husband died one year ago; my PC (Sony Vaio) crashed twice since his death causing much loss of data, photos, etc. and so I decided to convert to Macs; my husband was strictly a PC man, ex-IBMer, programmer and had networked the entire home; so I had no idea where to begin, so I decided to start from scratch. In doing so I was able to salvage some files and voila, the file was readable w/the program you suggested. Now I can see him live somewhat and remember what we had.

Thank you so much,
Moms90
